Hi,

To be able to move in Austria, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Austria: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

I had a very difficult time buying a car. I am Irish but EU Citizenship is not enough. I had to be a permanent resident to buy a car.
The solution was a temporary license plate from the insurance company. It's a blue license plate (blau Nummer) This gives you one year to become "permanent" and get a regular plate.
