US Embassy No Cell-phone Rule- Help

So, I have to go get my passport renewed, ASAP, and I was just reading that you can't bring Cell Phones into the Embassy ! Apparently, they used to hold them for you at the entrance, but no longer do so. I live an hour outside Bogota, am new to the bus system, and really don't feel safe going without my phone! I've heard of services outside other U.S. embassies where you can leave your phone, as iffy as that still sounds, it'd be better than being stuck w/o all day...

Anyone care to share any info about this?

Would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Jennifer

I don't know about this rule, but if you have to leave your phone at home, don't forget you'll always find a guy who sells phone calls by minutes at every street corner. Just write down the most important numbers on a piece of paper, and have some coin change in your pocket.

As for transmilenio, there are always SITP agents in the stations who will  be ready to help you getting the right bus if you happen to get lost. Plan ahead, study the routes and bus numbers, and write all this down.

Keep it Old School, gringalatina  :D
