Comment on my job salary offers - 15000 SR for 23 years in IT?!

Hi,

I am living in India and I got an offer for the position General Manager IT in a leading automotive Company  at Riyadh, Saudi.  I have 23 years exp in IT.

Monthly Salary    Basic 15000 SR,  HRA 5000, GSM allow  300 SR. Plus company maintained car and Fuel (worth 3200 SR per month) plus  flight tickets, Gratuity, Bonus (not mentioned), Medical Insurance.

I feel the salary mentioned is low for the position and year of exp.. I am planning to bring my spouse after 6 months..

I request your comments on the salary package pl..  How much would be average cost of living for a family of two?

Thanks

Hello Kan69 and welcome on board :)

So as to compare your salary with others and cost of living in Riyadh, I invite you to browse through threads in our Cost of Living in Riyadh section of the forum.

Yes, the salary is below average.

I would not consider cost of living a factor to count. It won't exceed 10K for a decent (rather humble) lifestyle. My question would be how much will I save. If I save equal or say more than that in my home country, why would I consider relocation?

Not a good package by any standard !! For 23 years experience I would be looking for 23000+ range minimum (excluding housing, travelling, medical, schooling)

Correct me @saimans in case I'm mistaken. I've read you saying: "Don't come if you don't get three times what you are making back home".

That's the best call! After all, the weather is not what brings people here. :)

Yes, I agree with that. But when I mentioned that 3x value that's the net income in hand you get. Mind you there's a huge tax implication on your income back at home. Higher the salary, higher the taxes. And considering his 23 yrs experience and the salary trend in India, the amount mentioned will be around 3x his existing one. So that why said the minimum + benefits.

Wisdom!

What a liar..no Indian makes a salary like that..stop the BS

Dear, I cant comment much on Automobile sector, however in IT sector with 10 yrs of exp will get min 20K\month with no perks... except two way ticket to your home country once a yr and monthly cell phone bill is taken care. I guess you can push for more in your negotiation...

Go Ahead and join it is good change

Do you ever dream of making such salary package at your country?!

I work for a beverage company and our IT Manager's Salary Package who is an expatriate with around 25 years of experience is as follows:

Basic Salary: SAR 30,000
Housing Allowance: SAR 10,000
Transportation Allowance: SAR 4,500
Mobile Allowance: SAR 1,000
Quarterly Allowance: SAR 15,000

Wishing you all the best!

I'm a CIO with over 35 years of different IT experiences, holding B. Sc. with double majors, one of them is Information Systems. I'm a principal consultant/trainer on IT Service Management with over 10 years of experience on that field....
But, I receive peanuts! Total monthly pay less than SAR 40,000 and doing 2 jobs of laid out staffs: IT management and ERP PM (They were very joiner to me but used to make double of my pay)!

Why I'm taking this Salary? Because I was honest when the GM asked me how much I'm making on my previous job! I was making SAR 25,000 but making much more of that on training and freelancing consultancy. He considered only my Salary while deliberately ignored the rest of my income. He has badly used my need for a job and the current circumstances on my country. He is a typical Saudi manager.

By the way, I'm an Arabic person with full command on English language.

So, it depends on the company you work for and on the way you negotiate your salary package!

True. We can't control the company we intend to work for but the negotiation skills is one area we must keep working on.

I strongly vouch that the question: "How much do you make now?" is a wrong interview question.(Many senior HR specialists agree and a lot has many written about it). As a job seeker, you may have been trapped in a job not matching with your caliber and/or say a low-paid job. Depicting that information will make sure you won't get out for a longer period. Or say, you have recently upgraded your qualification (and so: worth) by earning a new accreditation or a formal degree. "How much do you make now?" amount plus a small top-up won't justify the situation most times.

My response usually is to make the point that "How much do you make now?" is not that matters to me. It's what I am targeting on; based on my market value and my long-term career plan. If it doesn't make sense to the interviewer/employer, sorry I am not whom he is looking for.

A better question might be: "What are your expectations?"

Also, I suggest my friends to plan properly before switching a job. If I've been between job, obviously I'm on edge and the employer will determine it fast; only to get advantage of my neediness.

Negotiate Hard, most of the time it pays !! Atleast in my case :)
