International valid health insurance-permanent visa?

hello everyone,
can anybody tell me whether we definitely require a internationally  valid health insurance for self befor applying for permanent visa in brazil?i am planning to move to brazil by january next year by marrying my brazilian girlfriend.please can anyone advice?

Hello bala mohan,

No you don't need any healthcare plan in order to apply for permanency in Brazil. The Sistema Única da Saúde - SUS, Brazil's public healthcare plan is available to everyone, Brazilian and foreigners alike. It is far from being great, but it is free and it is actually not bad at all for emergency treatments at Emergency Hospitals or UPAs (Unidade de Pronto Atendimento) which are smaller neighborhood Emergency Clinics.

Most employers in Brazil have private healthcare plans for their employees, they allow you to be treated in better hospitals and clinics.
