hey there Dave... what part of east coast are you from ? I'm from N.B. ... I live part time in Belize as well was thinking about buying a newer truck and driving down but I read some blogs lately and they say the cartel is very aggressive and anyone with a US or Canada plate with a nice veh. will be noticed and pulled over ... thoughts ? ...

Trip down thru Laredo ,San Luis Potosi ,and on to Puebla and on to Villahermosa is almost all equivalent to an american Interstate.
Thus ,you are pretty insulated from cartel nonsense.
Travel in daylight hours and your chances of running into Cartel operations is about as likely as hitting a moose.
In my view , your bier enemy will be the Mex. police.
That said ,there can be some added safety in numbers....
