Cost of living in Ghana

Hi friends. Can someone guide me for renting a decent and reasonable place in Accra/Tema for about a month starting from the end of current month?

Do you mean you want to know a price or you want to find an actual property?
If you are looking for a property try ghanaweb.com and look on their real estate portal, there is also googletrader ghana where you will find property listed. Good luck with your search.

is kumasi safe for indians? i got a job in kumasi with 600 USD with all facilities like house+vehicle+food+mobile+trasportaion etc.. is this a good deal pls reply me fast

Everywhere in Ghana is relatively safe as long as you take sensible precautions. $600 is far more than the average Ghanaian would be paid and if, as you say, it is only for personal expenses it should be enough but it won't give you an extravagant life style.

600USD per month not a day still it is a good offer?

I know it is a month! Whether it is a good offer is entirely up to you. Only you know your lifestyle and committments. What is a good offer for one person isn't for another. You have to decide.

Hello,
I got the offer from one of the company to work in Acra/Tema The salary offshored + Local USD ($3000 Net of Taxes), with the furnished family accommodation, car (Fuel and Maintenance from company)and the payment of other utility bills, free medical, children education, yearly passage + Bonus. Kindly advice what will be the saving in this also is there any indian school at any of these locations.

Sounds like a good deal if you are only paying for food etc. There is an Indian school in Tema.

Can you help me for an average for a family with two kids how much will be food and miscellaneous expenses. How much will be my savings in $3,000.

That will very much depend on your lifestyle. If you eat out a lot or have weekends away or like clothes and shoes then you wouldn't have much left but if you eat in and don't have many needs then you might be able to save a half to a third of your salary.

I am a Missionary doctor coming to ghana, i want to know the internet availability in Swedru with the cost per month for an unlimited package, also i want to know is there any net work to net work free calls. i also want to know the school fees in an international schools and private ones (if i happen not to afford the international school fees).
what is the cost of an x ray, ultra sound, and consultation per visit.
Thank you so much.

I can only advise you on Accra so hope someone else might know about the situation elsewhere. Probably the only internet service will have to be via the mobile phone networks. I suggest you look at MTN, Airtel, Tigo, Glo and compare their packages. You can usually get reduced costs for calls if you call other people on their network but not sure if there are any free ones.
Again I don't know if there are any international schools in the area where you are going. The well established schools here in Accra are expensive but there are cheaper alternatives you will need to look around to find one that suits your needs.
As to medical chargess, these are not too expensive in the government clinics but if you go to the private hospitals a CAT scan will cost you around US$350. I have no idea about other charges

Thank you so much hkan for your prompt reply, let me come there and will explore. shall kepp in touch. take care.

I have been offered a job in Tamale ..with a accomodation , international health package  , 2 flights ...and a gross base pay of 42000 USD /per annum...Can anyone tell me what is the tax rate and with this salary will I be able to  save money.

This seems a very good salary and should allow you to save. The tax rate is 25%.

Other salaries posted on here are usually in dollars. You don't say if you are coming alone or with your family or whether your package covers medical and utilities.
GhC should be an adequate salary but you will also have to factor in that it will devalue over the length of your contract when compared to the dollar

Yes , insurance for self + family is covered . Initially family will not be coming but 2 of them will join me after 3 months . Agree that under current scenario , it seems GHC is depreciating , what is your perception of inflation in Ghana over the next year or so ? Also , understand monthly expense on TV channel access is pretty expensive , any idea whether they provide Indian channels on TV and if yes what are the charges , if no what channels are normally availabel on TV ?

Go to dstv.com and you will see the channels. It costs around US$80 per month for the plan with all the channels. The inflation rate is around 10% at the moment and has been pretty steady in the 3 years I have been here but of course it might change.

hello. what does the internet cost in Accra in pounds please?

It all depends on usage and the company you are using. For example on my smart phone and tablet I use airtel and get 200 megabites for 30 days for less than 2 pounds and 750 megabites for 30 days for 5 pounds respectively but I only use it when I am out of the house as at home we have iburst and get 300 megabites for 7 pounds. We basically only use our computers for emails and general browsing but if you are using a lot of downloading and things like skype then you can easily use your megabites in a day or two.

Hello everyone,

Basically am from Chennai finished my Bachelor of Engineering in 2014 and starting my career.

Got a job offer for procurement officer stating USD 1000 ( 50% Local + 50% Overseas Salary).+ Car + driver + furnished Accommodation + house cook allowance + medical facility + to and fro air fare.

Is the salary enough to live around? Could I accept the job offer?

And can someone could suggest the scope of procurement officer in future.

I love having a walk around during late nights and is it safe around?

As usual my reply is that it all depends on your lifestyle. Living on $500 in Accra might be difficult if you like eating out and socialising.
Accra is generally safe but you need to take the same precautions as you would anywhere

Thank you Ann,

Actually the local salary would be around 1500 Ghananian Cedi. So what will the sufficient salary to have weekend hangout and occasional social life.

Most Ghanaians get far less and they manage so you should be able to but as I said it depends on you. Consider you package and make sure it covers utilities or you might find you are paying a lot in electricity. Also if you want DSTV premium that costs over GhS 350 a month. Then there are phone and internet costs. What about medical cover as getting that yourself would also be expensive? Are you paying tax or is your employer deducting it as that will be 25%?
You will have to decide if the package is sufficient

Thank you so much ann for your kind informations provided. I would contact my official to confirm based on your info provided.
The basic thing they mentioned are $1000 ( local +overseas) , car with driver, cook allowance, medical facility and travel fare from India.
Is there anything else other than you stated in previous reply I need to confirm with my official before stepping to Ghana?
Really thanks for the guidance you provide me.

is enough :)

Hello
I am presently working in Dubai and about to be relocated to Ghana.
How much do I need to luve confortably and save a sufficient amount to send back to India.
Requirements in Ghana:
A 1 bhk furnished apt with aircon
Electricity gas water etc
Avg food cost per day (3 meals)

Thnks

With having all those allowances I believe you will be just fine with the salary offered .  I earn 1000usd all paid locally and no allowances - I pay from my salary Ecg, salaries to Nanny, driver, househelp and security and still be able to hang out at poolside on weekends. Yes not much into clubbing at night but still. At the time my husband was not working I was able to feed all my family and pay salaries to house staff and still SAVE by the end of month.  Anyway to get an overview of how much smth would gost you might want to have look at my blog inghanawithkids.com I used one month to write down all my weekly expenses. Well yeah, in terms of saving I guess I did not choose the best month for monitoring the expenses so I might try again in September.

I would like to know if you have an updated guide since 2010? I hope to be able to travel to Ghana this year (2018). I will be getting married there.

Most things in Ghana have increased in price due to the fall in the cedis against the dollar. Accommodation is cheaper due to an increase in the availability of properties but it does depend on what you are looking for. Electricity is a bit cheaper too. If you put a list of the items you think you will be buying I can give you the current price.
