Need to know Living expenses in Petaling Jaya - 10000RM good?

Hi ,

My company is ready to offering 10,000RM/month in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
Currently working in bangalore getting take home salary Rs.86,000 (5175RM)/month, CTC is Rs.105000 (6320RM)/month.

How much could be living cost in PJ for single, is 10000RM is good offer there?

Either i can save 5000RM?

Income tax will be flat non-resident rate of 25% for first 6 months so that RM2500 per month
Thereafter the scale is will mean the tax will be about RM1400 per month
2015

5,000-10,000      1% RM50
10,001-20,000    1%  +RM50
20,001-35,000    5%  +RM750
35,001-50,000   10%  +RM1,500
50,001-70,000   16% +RM3,200
70,001-100,000   21% +RM6,300
100,001-120,000  24% +RM4,800

Accommodation (depends on if you flat share or get your own) RM1000-1700

Deduction for medical insurance RM?

Groceries RM750-1000

Entertainment RM500 (depends if you like to drink)

Internet/TV RM250

Utilities RM100

Mobile RM150

Transport (depends where you live but RM1500 if you need a car)

Savings depends on your choices and needs.  Don't forget the lower exchange rate. You can put RM on deposit for 3 months and earn 3.1%

About the same as you get - rule of thumb double Indian salary min in my opinion.

What you have to consider is:

- career advancement - does it help you in future?
- are you giving up a secure job for an insecure expat job?
- Do consider Malaysian employers often treat Indian IT workers like slaves. Not all but 7 days a week 18 hours a day for 10k isn't worth it. You should ask to talk to current employees to find out working conditions

Hi,

How much could be food cost if take outside, and how much could be cost if self cooking?

How much could be required for
Rent (Basic, semi furnished for single) in petaling jaya
Food -Non veg ( No liquor habit)
Public Transport

Job is secured and Career growth also looking good.

Planing to move to same MNC company where i am working now.

Its good to work on RM30-45 per day if you eat outside. Remember Starbucks is RM12 so add more if you like that.
Costs of groceries for cooking already given.
Rent RM1200-1700 depends on age, quality, etc.
Public transport depends on distance but put aside RM300 per month for train. If you need taxis then RM200 on top
Remove the RM500 for beer.

What coud be the rent if sharing basis? (Min Kitchen, single bed, TV, Fan, Attached bath room)

RM700-1200 depends on where the share takes place. Modern buildings cost more.

Take a look at www.ibilik.my and search on PJ for some ideas.

Thanks

If you want attached bathroom more like 1,500 RM+!

Property prices and rents in KL/PJ are just crazy.

Inflation is running at about 8% for basic goods / food.

Only those on 20k + can afford to drink  :sosad:  so always factor no drinking in  :gloria

Typical; salaries of real people I know - all pm:

Cleaner (no education) 3,000
Diploma holder working in tuition centre (< degree) 6,500
State science teacher (senior) 6,000 plus loads of perks like low interest mortgages
1 year experience Asian expat in distribution 7,000
Supervisor in charge of 6 people 12,000 RM (12 years ago)
Mamak owner 12,000-25,000++ (no education!)

To make ends meet most couples have two working adults and often most people end up with own business - usually one of a couple - or do both.

10,000 rM a month isn't a middle class salary in Malaysia anymore as a house is 500,000 at least in far out areas and a decent car is 120,000 at least. A decent house in PJ now costs millions!
