Austria is a wine producing country, there are 1000's of wine taverns dotted around the country. They are called Heurigen. They offer home made food and both the food and drink is very cheap. 
When they are open the often have poll sticking out in the front with a light on.

Wiener Schnitzel. Local speciality is Schilcher rose wine. Also Backhändl- deep fried chicken in bread crumbs. Vanilla Kipferl, a speciality crescent shaped biscuit made usually around Christmas. Stollen, especially with Mohn/poppy seeds, Apfelstrudel. All coffees in all methods. Iy you like a milder brew, then either cappochino, or even better 'Verlängertes' which is an espresso with a milder bean and more water. Delicious.
When the Heurigen has a branch sticking out above it's entrance or sign, it means the new crop is in to drink. Sturm is another to try, which is the cloudy not fully fermented wine available early in the season. All Austrian wines are excellent, some similar to the Italian, but full bodied too.
