Introduction - New to Warsaw, looking for friends and networking

Hi everyone,

I am Robert, from Liverpool, England, met a Polish girl in Barcelona, moved to London and then found out she got a job in Warsaw yesterday and booked the flight tickets today for the 12th September! All this in a year and a half, pretty rock n roll? That is my life story so far...

I am extremely looking forward to moving as even though I have never been to Poland I have lived with my partners family and love the whole Polish culture. It is a refreshing change after living in Liverpool all my life.

Personal background

I am a seasoned I.T professional who broke away from the corporate world to start his own software development company that has become a great success. My life is based around technology, but I also enjoy badminton and me and my partner try and take it seriously when we have the time.

What am I looking for from this post?

I am mostly looking to build up a network of friends and other expats.

I want to take learning Polish seriously. I know some basics and am already starting to learn how bending works. I would love to meet up with anyone locally that is willing to share their amazing language with me.

Networking with local professionals. I have a lot give and a lot to learn. If you are thinking of starting your own business or have already took the leap I would love to hear from you. I am (over time) planning to open an office in Warsaw if I believe it is the right thing to do, but firstly I would like to understand the people and economy better and networking with others. I am planning on posting a job in the job listing side of this forum, but anyone with an interest or experience in website design or development then please drop me a private message.

Find some badminton players :) I work from home and my partner is in the office all day (and sometimes night.....lawyer!) so it would be great to meet some people that are interested in playing.

What I can give

I can offer a good time! I am a fun out going guy who loves to try anything and everything. I am not shy and enjoy meeting as many people as possible.

I can offer you a native level of English or if you have Polish I would be happy to trade time and I can give you a lesson in any area of I.T you need. I have a degree in Software engineering, been an network engineer for most of the UK major banks, strong security background and web design all of which I'd be happy to teach for free!

Free meals! Me and my partner are new to the city and would love to meet as many people as possible, so if you have a cool story you are more than welcome to come share a dinner with us and I might even throw in a cake at the end if your stories are good. :)

Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Hi Robert!

My name is Andreas and I´ll be moving to warsaw in three weeks for work! I don´t know what level you you´re at when it comes to badminton, but I´ve played a lot in my "younger days" and would love to find someone to play with since i recently started playing again here in Sweden!

Send me a message if you´re up for it! :)

/Andreas

First go to Legends Bar in Emill Palatter, south side of the Marriot Hotel, it's run by a guy from Liverpool so you'll meet likeminded people. However, just being English doesn't qualify you as a teacher. Do you have a TEFL certificate? e.g. CELTA or CertTESOL that qualifies you to teach English as a second language? Almost every school in Warszawa requires this as would most other prospective clients.

Sorry, but things here have changed somewhat over the last five years I've taught here. I am qualified and have taught in various university faculties and state schools - avoid both the pay is awful, private schools better, your company (in Polish 'your own activity') possibly better. In Poland you really need to be qualified, and experienced too now if you want to earn well. Are you? If you're new to all this let me know with a private post.

Let me know

Ray

Hi Robert.

I love badminton and would enjoy a game with you. I'm moving to Warsaw on the 29th of June 2015.  My partner is Polish she will be joining me in a few months.

I'm a wealth consultant for the devere group and we specialise in helping expats.

Also my partner works in IT, banking. She writes sql, c++ etc.  I'm sure that it would be good to meet up for all sorts of reasons, firstly to make a freind.

Let me know if you'd like to meet up for a friendly drink as I can see your add is quite old

Kind regards

Chris

Hi Robert, you will love it here as long as you come with an open mind :-) and take no notice of the driving, welcome for when you arrive.
