Vienna and Salzburg

Hello eveyone! I am T - 12 days from my 2 week trip to Vienna, the queries i asked previously were readily answered so here i am again with a new set:

1) Salzburg - im travelling with my wife and a Dutch friend who spent most of his life vacationing in Vienna and Salzburg as a kid, since hes grown up he hasnt been back in quite some time. we had wanted to visit Salzburg for a few days and possibly rent something on the mountain, however we have the following queries:

a) how to get "up" the mountain after getting to salzburg by train from vienna.
b) how to find good accommodation that is either on the mountian or near it, something that does not end up costing me an arm and a leg.
c) recommendations by anyone on how to go about this.

2) Vienna - we will be spending a major portion of our trip in Vienna, and of course, there is nothing better than seeing a city through the eyes of a resident there, so if anyone fancies meeting up with tourists to give em the gist of life there, we would surely welcome it! as we are coming from Kuwait, the most affluent goods here are coffee and spices; just saying :P

we have a list of places to visit in vienna, schonbrunn zoo, a few museums, i am looking forward to some good running there. we are not trying to crash on anyones couch here, we have accommodation at Sechshauser Straße 21, but meeting people for coffee would be nice, get an idea of the places that tourists do not know about :)

a) You can use the cable care to get up the mountains

Fares 2015:
ASCENT AND DESCENT:
Adults € 22.00
Children (6-14 years) for one child only, € 11,00, all others free of charge
Students € 15.00
Dogs € 7,50 (muzzle)
Single free ride with the Salzburg Card!

b) For accommodation I would try www.airbnb.com

Schonbrunn is great for running and as you are wanting to visit museums its a good idea to get the Vienna Card, you also get free public transport with it as reductions at attractions. The same goes with the Salzburg card. You save a load of money.

Also if you are traveling by train instead of using an OBI train. Use the Westbahn train. It is fraction of the price.

Details can be found here - Westbahn Train

Details of the Salzburg & Vienna cards can be found here.

Salzburg Card

Vienna Card

We used the Salzburg card when we visited the city and it is so useful and saves you so much money, at lot of times we didn't even need to buy tickets to attractions and just hoped on and off buses.

wow thank you so much for this wealth of info!
