Things to do in Istanbul during the weekends

Hi,

What do you usually do on your weekends in Istanbul?

Are there any places to visit, any activities, any events or festivals regularly organized you would like to recommend?

What are your top tips for the weekend in Istanbul?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experience, ;)

Christine

Leaving aside the 'touristic' Taksim and SultanAhmet, here's some of the things that you could do in Istanbul on a weekend:

1. Go cycling! Take a bike and ride along Bostanci seashore all the way to - well, wherever you want! Its a long stretch!
2. Go fishing! Either along Uskudar, Karakoy or the Galata Bridge... Your choice, just pick a spot!
3. Read a book! Sit by the seaside anywhere I guess.. But some of the best spots are around Moda, Bostanci and Uskudar
4. Go camping! Get off the work on Friday and head to Kilyos til the Sunday night!
5. Take a walk on the wild side! Well, somewhat wild! explore the Belgrat forest!

But at the end of the day, just do what you feel like doing! Enjoy your stay!

Great suggestions Zealand. .  Polenezkoy is actually a great addition.
Another suggestion would be heading out to Eyup n taking a chair lift up to Pier Lotte abd enjoying the view of Golden Horn...
Take a walk back through the grand cemetery that runs through the mountain.
