You can please enquire with the Passport & Immigration office at Sterling House, Lislet Geoffrey Street, Port-Louis.

You keep your own  passport when you become permanent resident (PR).

PR does not entitle you to Mauritian citizenship - this is another lengthy exercise and not easy to come by.

BTW/FYI: Mauritius is an independent nation with its own passport  - it is not a territory of France

As a permanent resident , he IS NOT issued a Mauritian passport since he won't be a  Mauritian citizen. He will have a permit to reside on the island as much as he pleases.
