I'm sure that the school /college / university that you will be attending will have some recommendations for you. These institutes very often have an online forum designed to assist with accommodation etc. Maybe you could take a look and find somewhere temporarily until you have settled down and then find somewhere else? But I imagine that accommodation in NY will be fairly expensive, even if it's shared with friends, so are we to assume that you have a part time job to help with this? Maybe your potential employer could help too? Just a thought.
