Average Irish wants relocate to DAKAR

Hello..EU member from Ireland. Can anyone tell me if it is difficult for me to obtain a resident permit? Any mud holes I need to be prepared for? Where do I go to find shared accomodations? Can anyone refer me to a immigrqtion specialist who has contacts? Murgoci[at]safe-mail.net

Welcome on Expat-blog Brasstacks11! smile Concerning the accommodation, you should have a look at the Senegal classifieds > accommodation section and post an ad there.

Good luck

Re: Average Irish wants relocate to DAKAR

Hi Brasstacks,
Getting residency isn't difficult - just time-consuming as your casefile can sit with the Police d'immigration for some time. The following is the official website with the details of what you need to submit:
http://www.demarches.gouv.sn/ressource. … ;id_dem=87

As with a lot of things in Senegal, the relational aspect of things is very important, so if you get to the stage of submitting the dossier, then try to get to know the officer who is dealing with you and try to deal with them whenever discussing your case. If everything is in order, then you should get the Recipisse' (receipt) which serves as your ID until the official one is produced.

Mud-holes can be: means of subsistence - ie: will you have a job by the time you apply for residency? Criminal records - make sure you get this before you leave Ireland. And do you speak French? if not all of the above will be very difficult without you getting help from a Senegalese person - which is probably worth doing anyway as things are yet smoother when conducted in Wolof!

As for accoms, try trawling the net for 'hebergement dakar', or try sites like Senegalaisement.com or Expatdakar. Once here, there are a number of free magazines that can be found in bars and supermarkets, though these generally offer straight lettings rather than houseshare. Failing that, there's always Universite' Cheikh Anta Diop.

Can't help with the immigration specialists, I'm afraid...

Re: Average Irish wants relocate to DAKAR

Hi BP,

Everything depends on what you mean precisely; whether you're talking about what it's like to be resident here, or how it is to come as a visitor. But I'm guessing from your post that you've already landed in Dakar. So to answer your question with another - what in particular did you want to know?
