Dog and baby coming to Addis....

.... And they might also bring me and my husband too :-)

Hello, I'd be grateful if anyone can help with the two subjects.  My little boy will be one year old in July.  Is Addis a good place to bring up a baby? Playground, nursery schools, making friends, healthcare etc? Also, we are thinking of having baby no. 2 whilst we are there.  Are the medical facilities (private) good enough?

Second, Dexter the dog!  Does Addis have people who take dogs out for walks on a daily basis? It is safe for dogs, good vets etc? We also go back to UK a few time per year and where we are now (Panama) we leave him in a nice boarding house where he can play with other dogs and run round in a safe and secure environment.  Is there anything like this in Addis please?

Really good to get your suggestions based on experience.  If we go for the Addis job we have until this Friday to apply, so all comments welcome in the next few days.  Many thanks.

First thing I want to say is that relocating to Addis will be a huge readjustment for you and your family.

Addis is a great place to raise your baby boy. we have some really good day cares and I'd be happy to get u in touch with amazing pediatricians here. My sister and her kids moved here from Norway a few months ago so I  know some really good places for your child and I'd be happy to help you out.

There are also some really good OB/GYN specialists and be happy to get you the important information you need to conceive your second child ( I'm a medical student) I'd also tell you which places and doctors to avoid because, trust me, you have to have the right kind of people here to be comfortable.

As for the dog, I'm sorry to say that we have no dog walkers or a boarding house. But we do have some decent vets. Once in addis, you will probably get a "zebegna" for a really cheap price. The zebegna is someone who will guard your house day and night, answer the door, get sent out to the market, do the gardening,  so he should be able to walk the dog able to ungrounded the neighborhood every afternoon.

If u need any  information before or after your arrival to Addis,  please don't hesitate to a contact me. my sister went through the same thing and I'd like like to make the transition easier for you.
