Lining in Bali

Finding a quiet spot should be as easy as buying a copy of lonely planet, then avoiding everything mentioned in it.
However, Lombok is better, with few tourists and far less of everything they're associated with.

You still get the amazing beaches.

If your interest is Chinese culture, Taiping or Malacca (Malaysia) could be the place for you.
Both are wonderful places.

Has LOMBOK easy access to an international airport? Or to Bali?
I have to live near by or having rapid access to an intl airport, convenient for a frequent flyers.
Also I don't want be isolated in future.....

Somewhere on the outskirts of Ubud should be perfect for you.

Shopping is far more limited on Lombok than Bali, but all the basics are easily available.
Other options could be Anyer area, two hours drive from Jakarta, but very quiet and still has nice beaches.

Absolutely yes. There is also a very well established community of artists in Ubud and the surrounding villages. Many westerners have chosen Ubud for their retirement and so you can find plenty of western friends there if that is what you like.

Ok...now I am jumping in. Just make sure you have the right visa if you intend to stay for long term.

Hi happyhour,  thanks,  what is your recommendation for somebody who wants to enjoy living in Bali without headache of complicated paper works?
My initial plan for the first year to use tourist visa & stay 2 months / each quarter in order to establish myself for permanent stay. What is the best way?

Actually, you can easily research Ubud on the internet yourself. There is so much information available about it and the surrounding villages.

Sadly, there isn't one.
The tourist visa is 30 days, and can be extended for a further 30, but I understand it takes a couple of days to get it done.
If you do that too many times on the trot, immigration might well assume you're working and refuse you a VOA or question you a lot before they extend the visa.

If your art is to be sold locally, that would probably be considered work, and that'll complicate matters, as well as increase costs.

Not at all I shall not looking for income. Painting is just my hobby.  Bali is just an inspiration which I lost in Europe.

Two points…one, as of 2013 Iranian citizens are no longer eligible for visas on arrival.  If you have other than an Iranian passport, check the VOA eligibility list to see if that country is on the list.

As a result of this recent change, if you are planning to enter Indonesia on an Iranian passport you will have to apply for a visit visa from an Indonesian embassy closest to where you are currently living (there is no Indonesian embassy or consulate in Monaco).   

As for what you are looking for…Ubud Bali is the obvious choice.  Ubud is the cultural heart of Bali and it has been home to foreign expatriate artists for over a hundred years.

Roy is absolutely correct, there is no possibility of a VOA, so paperwork is going to be a killer for you.
They'll ask for proof of income and/or a good bank account before you get a visa.

It's correct, Iranian citizens need to apply for a visa which needs to be approved.

As Roy (Ubudian) correctly informed, the visa on arrival status was revoked again

How nice of you to clear the confusion. My wife says it doesn't worth it. Nearest Indonesian embassy to Monaco is in Paris. May be we have been too spoiled in the past 15 years in Monaco!

So, we leave it for the time that VOA becomes applicable again.
Anyway it isn't vital & urgent. We think of other alternatives for coming holidays. ...

Indonesia is a wonderful country, so I hope you can visit one day.

Ubud is the "artist capital" of Bali.  Centrally located (far from the beaches) it still gets a fair share of tourists.  To really get off the beaten path, i find the north coast to be peaceful, full of nature and culture, yet still within 20 minutes of a Hardys or Carrefore.  Sun rise/sets are both awesome up here.  Village life is packed with culture and true nature is a stones throw in nearly any direction. Prices for accomodation tend to be lower and the traditional market has fresh seafood daily.  Plenty to do and see up here, waterfall treks for varied levels of stamina, hot springs, scuba, snorkeling, Temples, or wander thru Lovina to discover your own special place to enjoy a meal.  For goodness sake, keep this to yourself lest the place be overrun.
