Healthcare in Taiwan

Hi,

how does the healthcare system work in Taiwan ? Is it efficient ?

What are the main differences between public and private sectors?

Is it recommended to purchase private health insurance in Taiwan?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience !

Julien

Taiwanese healthcare is amazing, provided you have a national health insurance, otherwise medical fee will run crazy expensive.

Hi Julien, according to what I've read, Taiwan has one of the world's top health care systems. In fact, my son who works in Taipei is very happy with it.

My wife who is working here in Taipei has had the National Health Insurance. My son and I was just able to get our National Insurance for we arrived later than.  It is wonderful.  I could not be more pleased with the health care system.  We found a wonderful Hospital and to have everything in one building is very nice.  The insurance is super easy to use...you just scan your card inside the waiting room, pick a number for what ever doctor you are seeing, and move on. You show it to the accounting department when paying and you are done.

Prices are so much better than in the US for health care. I have seen people fly from the US just for medical purposes  because it was cheaper to fly and get the proceedure than to have it done in the States (even without the insurance). I can not speak to the service of all of Taiwan, but the hospital we go to (Wan Fang Hospital) for check ups, dentist, or what ever has been the best I have ever experienced. So helpful and patient...they go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable.
