HI,
I am a PhD graduate in Horticulture, completed PhD degree at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan during2014. My PhD thesis was entitled as "Evaluation of controlled and modified atmosphere storage conditions for the transport of mangoes to distant markets”. In this doctoral research program, I made investigations on two major mango cultivars (Sindhri and Sufaid Chaunsa)of Pakistan for their potential of sea-freight to European markets under controlled and modified atmosphere storage.
I am currently working as Horticulture Value Chain Specialist for protected agriculture at USAID's Agribusiness project in Pakistan. As a regional in charge, I am giving technical inputs and capacity building trainings to 250 high tunnel grantees to make their high tunnels operational. I have been involved extensively in planning, monitoring, evaluation and report submission of assigned projects along with the formulation of budgets and exercised controls on spending. I have worked in close coordination with stakeholders in horticulture industry for compliance of international SPS compliances for increased acceptance of products in international markets along with the development, maintenance and taking care of working relationships amongst all stakeholders in horticulture supply chain. Together with my team, I have identified and conceptualized the problems of horticulture industry in Pakistan and develop improvement plans for submission to the government and international donor agencies for funding. I have organized various trainings, workshops and seminars on the subject of Protected Agriculture. Recently, I along with my team have successfully organized the Pakistan Vegetable Fair, 2014. The main objective of this fair was to create awareness among Pakistani farmers to adopt protected agriculture for quality vegetable production during off-season.
I have also worked as an Assistant Lecturer for teaching of horticultural courses to the undergraduate and postgraduate studies in University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. I used to teach various courses to graduate and post graduate students includingFruit Production, Vegetable Seed Production and Marketing, Advanced vegetable Production Mango and Date Palm Culture Export Management in Horticulture Postharvest Physiology, Nursery Management etc. I have assisted three post graduate students on behalf of my PhD supervisor in their research trials.
I have also worked as Assistant Manager (Supply Chain) in Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company, Ministry of Commerce, Pakistan, which is a federal organization for promoting horticultural business and exports. I have also worked as an Area Manager in British American Tobacco Company.
I am an open and easily approachable person with excellent social and communication skills. I have a broad team working experience with national and international and multidisciplinary projects/organizations. I consider myself a creative, independent, punctual, honest, social and reliable co-worker. I am an excellent problem solver with a passion for solving technical problems wherever needed and I strongly believe in teamwork. I have excellent English language skills both in terms of writing and speaking. I have written a number of peer reviewed scientific articles and I can say that I have excellent scientific writing skills. Moreover, I am experienced in field and laboratory studies in horticulture (focused on postharvest management); and possess various analytical skills.
Through academic R&D and professional job experience in public, private and development sectors along with the interaction with the industry, academia, policy makers and funding agencies, I have a gained broad experience and vision of nine years.
