What are the positives to living in Malta?

further to the topic I have met a few workers who only speak English not maltese or speak English and their own language. I asked at Pavi (potentially for my son) "do you recruit English speakers" customer services said we prefer bilingual but yes we do sometimes. Lidl security guard only speaks English and English guy works in Agenda bookshop in Valetta.

as for rest of topic...positive....its laid back southern Europe :)

Hi robpw2

That's a shame then ..... made me laugh.
We sold our house and moved here on the 20th December !!!

Same here, I've seen loads of foreign workers in bars, shops and supermarkets, working at the till, doing various jobs. Either that or there are some Maltese who can do a damn fine Scouse accent!!

ha ha my landlords son does a mean "innit bruv" lol dif subject i see i been upgraded from new member to "contributor" not long till i get to be all grown up and be an EB lol

Rob that's the best response I've heard so far  anywhere on here.  The world would be a better place with more people like you.  Cheers

I know a Maltese woman who married a geordie, and she"s got a stronger geordie accent than him now.

cant be bad then......

If I were you I would not move anywhere (since you already have the opportunity to go for nice holidays).

But what I know after living here for 4 years now...
...the island is safe. When I write safe this means you can leave your car with the running engine outside just to run into a shop and no one would take it. (It is silly leaving the engine running but I see this a lot and this is an example.)
...the hospital and staff really professional. (I gave birth here twice, would not go anywhere else.)
...kids friendly.
...no stress here.  :top:
...no after-hours. (what you can do today... you can do it tomorrow as well.)  :thanks:
...the sea is the best in September, October.

I remember the first time I saw an empty car with its engine running in Gozo, it was outside Arkadia and my first thought was is this a bank robbery?; however, when I came out of the pharmacy ten minutes later the car was still there with its engine running.

So I got in and went and robbed a bank.

ok, so that last bit isn't true, but I will say that at least the car didn't have its radio blaring like some other ones I have subsequently seen.

Some leave the engine running in summer for short errants so that the a/c keeps working. This you can see quite often in hot countries, not only here ... or the battery is almost flat  :)

I'm guessing that you don't drive in Malta then.

Does she drink Newkie Brown out a bottle too?

Classy burds some of them Geordies, eh Toon??  :dumbom::D

I wouldn't leave you car unattended unlocked because there's always a chance someone will steal it .

Yes, I do.  :one

I find it hard to understand when ethnic maltese speak English never mind Geordie or Scouse lol (dons tin hat and hides) my first ever visit to Pavi a woman behind me repeating "sorry" over and over and I am looking at her saying "why what you done" lol

It depends which part of Malta they are from/educational background/their parents' background, etc.
Some have a thick Maltese accent and I find it difficult too. Others speak English clearly with a Maltese 'lilt' but very easy to understand.

of course - what more can one want or expect.....

Low cost of living, wonderful people, best health care, no crime, drive on the left, great food wine and beer, fresh fruit and vegetables for nothing money, great party atmosphere, fantastic water sports, perfect weather..........

I really cant say as i have never lived in BA

Negatives are dependant on Area.

Choose the right area and then you will have different opinions.

What does annoy me is ALL the negatives that people throw out when most can be solved by talking to people, following the descriptions of what is needed to do etc.

Dogs for instance, I have a dog howling here at the moment, the dog is in season and this will stop, I spoke to the owner who apologised and took the dog to their field - Problem solved

Dogs Barking - nothing had happened in our area with regards to this for over 4 years, lately a dog has been barking in a Nearby field, Found the field, reported to the Police and the dog is no longer in the field.

Overcrowdedness - Depends where you live, if you want to live in St Julians then yes lots of people, if you live in Marsaxlokk then no

as you can see one persons Issue is not always another persons problem.
