Help wanted! advice..

Hi people,

I have questions to all the expats. I got a job interest from a leading bank in Kazakhstan. Now the employer says,
1. I need to resolve the question of allowing working in kz!
I think as an employer it should be their headache to get me a work permit from the government... Right?
2. He says without knowledge of Russian language I can't even be interviewed.. I mean do I need to be an expert in Russian to even think of a job in kz?

Sounds like the level of interest has dropped and they are backing off. Possibly they found out from immigration they could not hire you, or something similar because of technicalities. They are creating road blocks. (Remember HR is NEVER wrong).

Russian is the main business language in Kazakhstan, so yes you will have to speak Russian or Kazakh to get a job here.

I'm afraid you are wrong about the employer obtaining your work permit. If your are offered a job you will be given a contract and you employer will apply for a Letter of Invitation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). This letter will only be issued if the MIA is convinced that the job cannot be filled by a Kazakhstan citizen, or if you have specialist knowledge that is not available here. One you have received the LOI you will need to apply to the nearest Kazakhstan Embassy for a business visa.

I wish you luck, but your likelihood of getting a job here is very slim if you don't meet the aboce requirements.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the answers. I have already replied the recruiter though! Not a good chance here. I have known many expats who don't know how to speak russian before they even stepped into kazakhstan.

keithwlp: I don't think you are right here..about the work permit. As far as I know, work permit has to be issued by the governing body to the employer on behalf of the employee. (to be done in Kazakhstan)
"Foreign work license or Work permit in Kazakhstan is a standard document granted by the authorized body to an employer for attracting foreign employee to the Republic of Kazakhstan within quota distributed by the Central authorized body, except as stipulated by current legislation."

Ofcourse, I need to apply for a visa later after I get my work permit licence. (this will require a LOI)

I have been working in Kazakhstan since October 2013, married to a Kazakhstan citizen and know the visa requirements. You will not be able to enter Kazakhstan without a visa which will allow you to work here. This can only be obtained once you have been offered a job, been given a contract and your employer has applied for a formal letter of Invitation. This LOI will trigger a reference number to give your nearest  Kazakhstan Embassy permission to issue you with a visa. However, the rules are different if you are an investor. You could obtain a tourist visa, but that will mean a restricted stay for up to 90 days and no permission to work. If you overstay you will be fined USD 300, imprisoned and deported. The Immigration authorities are very strict. They will know you're here because your hotel will have you register you with them within the first 5 days of your arrival. There is no such thing as a work permit, it is a business visa.

Yes, you are right there are a lot of expats here, but they came here either with the company they were already employed by or received a job offer as I have already described above. I am here as an International teacher sponsored by a Kazakhstan organisation and have a business visa which allows me to work.

I'm sorry if this isn't what you want to here, but it is reality. Good luck. If you need any more help please do not hesitate to ask

By the way I was wrong about the tourist visa. It is only available for 30 days and not 90 days.

Well thanks.. No work permit only business visa. Interesting... Now in am completely unsure as to what the interviewer wants.. When he says.. i need to resolve the question of allowing working in Kazakhstan

You cannot resolve it yourself before you get a letter of Invitation and a contract from the company who is going to employ you. There are no short cuts in Kazakhstan

Hello keithwlp but I got invitation from Kazakh friend as tourist and it is up to 90 days.  It is written in the invitation. I will come to Kazakhstan next week. It will be first time in Kazakhstan.  What can I do while my vacation there to search for a work to get business visa please.

Hi inthink you are going to be disappointef because thr Kazakhstan embassy web site states that a tourist visa is only valid for thirty days. You arealso not sble to convert a tourist visa to a business visa. It willmakr no difference if you have a letter of invitation from a friend.
Also as has been explained before you cannot work on a tourist visa. To find a job is also very dufficult unless you are in a profession that has a skill shortage. You will also have to speak Ruasian and Kazakh.

Hi keithwlp.  Thanks for information.  I want explain that I speak Russian very good, English, german, Italian, arabic.  I work as salesman in hotel and I am professional massage therapist and I have all my certificates in that languages and computer skills.  how can I find a job at least what can I do in that month of vacation in Kazakhstan to search for work?

The invitation letter which you have received from your friend is not for "tourist visa". The Letter of Invitation (LOI) will grant you "Private Visa" (i.e. the official word is G-1 Visa, though I am not  so sure of this terminology). Anyway, in both the cases, you are not allowed to work in Kazakhstan. If you have a LOI for Private Visa, you can stay in Kazakhstan for 90 days but you can not work. This is the law of this Land. :(

Hi friends I want to come to astana from Lahore Pakistan due to no direct air link between Kazakhstan Pakistan the have come through connecting flight which is very expensive any solution
