I'm planning to head to Sihanoukville during May to carry out a 'reccie' to see if I would like and (able to make money running a business there) would want to live there. Europe has totally lost its way......

been in sihanoukville 3 months.retiring here and am looking for a small buisness to open.also as a musician looking to get a band together.......nothing to serious..more for fun.i am originally from england but have lived in the us and australia for years

i am from Pakistan.i am young (if you say 30 is ).graduated in medicine,doing post graduation diplomas in chest diseases and hospital management.i am afraid if i come to cambodia and could find a job or run my own clinic.its a gamble because any doc earn twice in pakistan than he/she earns outside but money is not a very big issue though a little big issue.life being an expat is more attractive.i have lived in china for 5 years,visited Europe and saudia .i need guidance according to my situation if someone could here.opening  own business  in cambodia is also in my mind.

gulf/europe/usa/canada/australia are not on my list.i like eastern/far east or some countries of Africa etc

I am an Italian woman who recently fell in love with Cambodia.
I decided to move to the Kindom, already quit my job and waiting to leave....in about two weeks, I hope.
I have spent almost two months and a half in Cambodia, during my six months traveling around South East Asia.
Came back to Italy two weeks ago and feel this is not my home anymore.
I am either thrilled and afraid of this new "adventure".
Also because, apart from some Khmer friends and a man I fell in love with, nothing is waiting for me in Cambodia.
No job yet, no house, no clear idea how to start managing my life there.
I know...it sounds so risky. But could not wait more!!!

    My name is John and I am retiring in Siem Reap. I am married with one child and living in TEAKSEN KHANG TBONG VILLAGE. I have just moved into a shop with ten bedrooms where I intend to run a small busines in the shop and rent out the rooms. I am very happy here. I love the country and the people.
I tend to inhabit the local communities rather than the pub street area and so I am trying very hard to learn Khmer which I find quite difficult.

I am Bruno Messens, 52 years old, Swiss citizen , living in Belgium EX manager of few companies, building houses, producing insulation glass, manufacturing of precision metal parts (for the aeronautical industry) etc. pretty good engineer in electronics, mechanics and chemical.
totally pissed off (burn out) here in Belgium and Europe with all the regulations, taxes, rules , that i have decide to quit all. (spending 40 hours a week only for useless paperwork, it's kill all business)
I was in Cambodia 2 years ago and lost my heat there. (the word stress does not exist there :-) )
Intend to be there in 3 weeks...

I was a psychotherapist in the states (mostly California) for a little over ten years, and then I decided it was time for a change. Here I am. I have been on sabbatical in Laos since January 1. I was volunteering in Vientiane for a bit. Now it is time to get back to work. I miss being a therapist. If you need a shrink, give us a call. I can offer therapy in English only. Indigo has other psychologists who speak other languages.
I love Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia. I am thrilled to be here.

Hi everyone

I am from Australia and still work, however want to live in Cambodia for several years and experience the people and the culture, which is my passion.

While there I want to add value to the country I live in.

I will still work outside of Cambodia and will do that in a fly in / fly out basis, so I will be in Cambodia for 2 - 3 weeks and then back at work in Nauru for 3 -  4 weeks. I work in a country called Nauru at this time as a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Advisor for an Australian construction company working in Nauru.

I hope to be there in Cambodia very soon and will start my Cambodia experience by living in Phnom Penh.

Any tips on living in Cambodia would be welcomed.

Your experience at PP will not be awesome as it's another big. City
Get to the provinces and see the real Cambodia and it's culture
I live in Siem Reap with a population of.  200000 and tourist  2.5 million a year
Airport is the busiest in Cambodia and easy access to many countries

Just relocated to PP from Colombo, Sri Lanka; this April.

Found great digs in a gated community, super security & no flooding.

Love the food and abundance of fresh fruit.

I had only planned to stay in PP a short time (maybe 3 - 6 months, find my feet, travel around the provinces and see what place suits me best.

I am fast catching you up in age :-)

As I am still working and will need to fly in/out of Cambodia I didn't want to get to far from one of the international airports, just to save time and money. Hopefully I will have many years in Cambodia to experience many parts of it.

I am going to be in Phnom Penh from the 22nd May, doing a 2 month internship teaching English and looking to see if I want to base myself there for an extended period of time- around a year. Will be looking for teaching work and accommodation from mid/end July all going well.

Phnom Pehn and Siem Reap are both international airports
So you won't experience too many problems I don't think
However getting to Nahau may prove a challenge

I am currently a teacher at a large American University. I am trying to retire some year. Quite frankly I am bored with what I am doing after 30 years of doing it. I was thinking about coming to Cambodia and trying it out for a year. I am currently teaching Materials Sciences at a Dental school. I have degrees in both Civil Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. I currently have my name on over 135 peer-reviewed scientific papers.  I have gone to a couple of the Universities in PP but  seem to be overtrained for what they are doing. I am 3/8ths of the way to getting a Master's in ESL. Does anyone on this board have any ideas as to what I could do here? I am ready to reinvent myself one more time.
I am traveling to Siem Reap tomorrow if there is anyone interested in getting a coffee and talking.

I'm Dean and I am from Australia. I am currently travelling around south east asia with my mate.
I am looking to buy a bike and travel from Siem Reap, down to sihanoukville then make our way through Vietnam and onto Laos.

Then hopefully sell the bike to another fellow eager backpacker.

Any words of advice, let me know.

A warm hello to all forum members,
I will be arriving in Phnom Pehn in early February 2016 and I
can't wait to get there as I have heard so many good things about
Cambodia and its friendly people and rich culture.
I have been a regular visitor to Thailand for several years but feel that the
overall attitude of most Thai nationals towards foreigners had changed and not
for the good on a whole, in most things that I did in Thailand they seemed to make it
harder for us to do.
Also their open discrimination policies of 2 prices,one for locals and considerably more
for foreigners was down right disgraceful,so I started to look around for a nearby alternative
and discovered Cambodia.
I am primarily coming to Cambodia to retire and do all the things still left on my very long
bucket list as I will finally have the necessary time to do them,something that I didn't have
after 28 years of sitting in an office.
So, thanks for the warm welcome and I appreciate all the time you have all taken to post your
own stories and advice to newcomers like me to help make the transition easier.
Is there by chance a local watering hole(Pub)where the expats gather for a cold one?
If so let me have the name of it and when I arrive I'll come down and meet you all,I love making
new friends.

Carl from Canada here! Age 39, been managing/working in nightclubs for years now. I speak both French and English fluently. TEFL degree, IT degree. Managed couple of call centers in the past. Owned a kickboxing school for a couple of years. Was into security work and studies during the years I taught Kickboxing (certified bodyguard).

Sick of the North - American way of life (The Matrix we are in)! We have lost our ways, our priorities and our self-respect. I hope to relocate somewhere in Asia and Cambodia seems like a good fit for me. I have been to Thailand and the Philippines before but would prefer somewhere with less tourists and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Open to good business ideas if a Partner is needed, open to teach English or French, open to teach kickboxing and would also welcome any positions in management in bar/restaurant industry.
