Beware of Fraudulent Immigrations Consultants

It is not without reason that Citizenship and Immigrations Canada has built into it's site a strong warning about using Immigrations Consultants or Representatives. While there are a number of legitimate ones out there, many are just frauds who take your money and run. There isn't even any guarantee that those consultants who are registered (with ICCRC) are all completely honest and aboveboard.

CIC information on how to Protect Yourself from Fraud:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/informatio … /index.asp

Check out what Fraud Watcher has to say about them too:

http://www.fraudwatchers.org/forums/vie … canimm_eng

Beware of any who make claims that sound too good to be true. Also those who ask for very high fees, especially if they want payment in advance.

If you don't go to the official Citizenship and Immigrations Canada website, but do a Google search about immigration to Canada then you're going to get hundreds of sites that all look very official, even look like they're a government website BUT THEY ARE NOT. Just remember they're all so-called consultants who will charge you as much as possible for what you can do all by yourself for free through CIC, so don't fall into this trap.

thank you for this help

On a positive note, let me share a success story involving an immigration lawyer. If yours differs too much, you might want to get suspicious:
I found a job in Canada on a regular jobsite, and the employer was willing to get me an LMO. They subcontracted the paperwork for that to an immigration lawyer. The lawyer gathered all necessary information from me, sent me forms to fill out, print, sign, fax back, one even had to be sent back and forth in hardcopy.
The whole process, including the lawyer's fees were paid by my employer, the first time I had to pay for anything was at the Immigration Office on entry. (some processing fee)

Wow, congrates can u share the website and which country you belong to ?

Sorry for the immense delay:
I am from Hungary, now I belong to Canada :-)
This office works with all our foreign employees:
http://www.gombergdalfen.ca/en/contactus.html
They don't do anything the applicants couldn't do through the CIC website themselves, they are just so much less likely to make mistakes, that their fees are worth the time saved.

Please note they have their own website, local phone numbers, e-mail addresses, you can see their plate by the door of a nice building on google streetview (not fully legible, but recognizable).

I'm noting these specifically because I just heard from a Hungarian family ripped off by a phony immigration consultant who had a facebook page for a website, a cell phone number, a hotmail.com e-mail address, and her office address was a small storage unit with a boarded-up window in an industrial district.
In order to cheat this family out of a lousy $1000, she lied to them about their status and the progress in the process, so they are now broke, without a work permit, and on the brink of extradition after having blown through their life savings setting up their new life here based on her lies. They wouldn't even be close to being out of the water even if they got their $1000 back through some miracle of law enforcement.

When you trust a fraudulent immigration consultant, you are risking much more than the money you hand them!

just meet two to three consultancy who told me, will do whole PR Process for you from india and you will be get PR in 9 month , it cost 3 Lakhs give to us in party your FAMILY PR come soon.

And than they close there office. so always be careful from any where you apply for PR for any country. always greedy people reedy to trap you.

Hi,

It's great to hear that. I am also thinking of applying for jobs through the canadian job sites. Hopefully lady luck will be on my side. Can I ask what job/educational background were you from and what job did you get from the job site?

We are very concerned on whether we will be able to get a job that pays enough to cover the cost of living there due to our qualifications. Heard that canada does not recognize foreign credentials.

My hubby and I are looking at any kind of office job. We have good years (approx 5 years) of experience in the Insurance industry. Understand that insurance personnel falls under the FSW list. We are looking at working at the back end/operation sides.

Of course Canada recognizes foreign credentials, who ever told you they didn't?

See the linked Service Canada webpage that explains the process of having degrees and certificates recognized:

http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/life … ials.shtml

@MissyPandy welcome to Expat-Blog

I agree with @wjwoodward that Canada do recognize foreign credentials. But (and notice the but... ) foreign working experience might get trampled on (ooooo, trample is a heavy word. you get my drift).

So, assuming if you are currently a manager back in SG, you might not be able to get whole of such a position back here in Canada. You'll have to build up your credentials here.

hi, my name is roneil and i am a filipino woking in dubai. i am writing this message to you because i have received an email from an agency name NAGSENTS (north america generaal staffing, employment and traavel solution) offering me a job as a nurse. i just thought that you can do me a favor and help me confirm this agency, knowing that you are in monteal.
according to them their  HEAD OFFICE IS IN MONTREAL-QC, CANADA.730 Rue Drummond,Montreal, QC H3G 1V7, Quebec, Canada.Canada. Tel: +1 (514) 395-6023i tried to call their office but it just keeps on ringing and no one is picking up the phone. it looks real to me but still i have a bit of worries tthat this scheme is a bogus. i hope that you can help me with my issues. thanks and hoping for your response.

I'd love to know more because he has job offers for canada you be here in Cameroon accommodate unpeu I hesitated for fear of being harnaquer if you know the reliable site please let me know please

Very helpfull. thank you!

I have wanted to move to Canada and just finished my studies.
The place where I study has started immigration services now.
They are promising a PR within 8-9 months. (for this they are claiming that I do not have to move there and PR will be given while I stay at my home country)
I just want to ask if this is really possible. They said they will be handling the offer letters and the job for me.
They are claiming to be certified consultant for Canada immigration.
I tried to check their name on this site http://www.iccrc-crcic.ca/home.cfm, as suggested by http://www.cic.gc.ca/
But their search doesn't seem to be working at the moment.

Can someone confirm if this is possible? The cost they are asking for is around $4000 CAD for the total process.

If they haven't provided you with a registration number that can be checked on the ICCRC website then they are not accredited consultants and likely a fraud.

The search is not working at the moment on the website. I just found this out today and had a small conversation with them. After that I came and did some search on web. I'm sure they will provide the number if I ask them but the search also has the option to search by the name, location.
The other reason I believe them is that they have been around since a long time. This immigration service they have just started. For their long time existence I believe they are not fraud and also they are not asking for the whole money in advance.

Sailing in the same boat. Did you pursue the application through North America General Staffing, Employment and Travel solutions NAGSENTS. I did all the processes and now they have requested me to pay $ 235 and send the proof pf payment to them. What was your outcome.

Are there many employers in Canada that will LMO you ? I thinking of moving to Canada

Hello Annarbour ,

Are you from NAGSENTS ? What is your organization's name if not that ?

Hello everyone,

I`m Jonathan from Sri Lanka, will it be possible to for anyone to recommend me a suitable consultant to proceed with my study permit etc to Canada.

Thank you,

Hi Jonathan,

For study permit, it is rather straight-forward. Make sure you get an acceptance from the college/uni that you are applying to and also read the instructions from CIC about study permit application. That means you should be able to handle it on your own.

However, I'll pm (private msg) a little later with the contact of someone (an immigration consultant) that'll will be able to assist (for a fee) your immigration needs to Canada.

Philip

Hey Philip,
It was nice hearing from you,
Thank you for the piece of information.
Keep in touch.

Cheers.

Hi
I am sorry I am taking you away from the topic
I need a some clarification related to the  the new immigration rules
I got my PR status on 4 October,2014 and then on 23 October I left Canada to resume my job in another country. New rules say that one has to be in Canada for at least 183 days in 4 years out of total 6 years preceding citizenship application. In that case I must return to live in Canada to maintain my PR status. I want to know what is the cut off date that I must return on or before ? What if I return on 1 December,2016. Would I be able to keep my PR status.
Thanks in advance

siragu

Thanks for the tip no one has contacted me yet but if they do I will check them out

It is highly likely that the dates would be based on a "rolling" year: i.e.  counted from the date on which you received your PR status (Oct. 4, 2014) and would be calculated based on the entry and exit stamps in your passport from that point onward. So in each year Oct. 4, 2014 - Oct. 3, 2015 / Oct. 4, 2015 - Oct. 3, 2016 / etc. you would need to spend at least 183 days in the country. You should, however, confirm this with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to be sure.

Cheers,
James
