Rental questions - are pets allowed - price ?

Hi, we are moving to Bahrain later this year and will have 2 weeks in serviced apartment before having to rent our own place. Is this enough time to sign up for somewhere and get the keys? Our other option is to come over 6 weeks before we move there, would we be able to 'hold' a house?

Our dog will also be coming. Property ads don't specify whether they allow pets. Is he going to be a big problem?

And finally, I gather Bahrain is somewhere you haggle for many things. How much movement in price is there normally in renting?

Cheers, Lou

Yes you are able to find and move into a house pretty quickly, though time would depend on the amount of work to be completed before moving in.  The one we are in now we viewed it at the weekend, and paid the deposit a day later then we moved in on the Friday!!  (So all done within a week!)  Mind you they were finishing adding in a new patio door for us so we had a sheet of plastic and a mattress over it for a day or 2!!

Just be certain to make a list of everything that needs to be done to the place when you look around, and give it to the landlord in writing.

There does tend to be quite a bit of haggling, but you need to decide whether you want extra items included or to get a discount on the rental price.  We didn't have the full CPR etc when we moved in so got the landlord to include all bills, OSN and broadband.

We found a place in a day. They provided alternative accommodation until the villa was ready to move into.
Pets aren't usually an issue but ask. We got a villas as have a dog too and went for an older one as also have 3 indoor cats.
We didn't haggle price as seemed reasonable and landlord good with maintainance etc

Thank you both! You're making it sound like an easy process!  :)
