Please Help Me Find a Place to Live

Hi All.

I retired half a dozen years ago and find I'm tired of life in the north country. I want to move to somewhere warm and friendly where I can do all the things I enjoy doing. Can you help?

I'm planning on moving to somewhere in Latin America next summer and am interested in identifying locations I might expect to be most happy living in. To that end, I wonder if anyone could tell me the name of a city or town (hopefully, there are several) where I would find:

   1. One or more markets open at least once a week year round where local farmers sell vegetables (like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, kale, spinach) meat and fruit.
   2. Places where I can safely walk, in a rural or natural rather than an urban setting, for twenty or more kilometers (more than twelve miles) round trip off road (but on the beaten path rather than hacking a trail through the bush.)
   3. A community where the residents are friendly and sociable, yet will respect my need for privacy.
   4. A community where I can safely go out on my own for a walk anytime between about 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, and where my place of residence is unlikely to be invaded if I take reasonable precautions such as locking doors.
   5. Regulations concerning my staying in the country that are relatively easy and inexpensive to comply with. In particular, the ability to stay for several months as a tourist and then renew tourist status readily for example by paying a hundred dollars or so to take a bus out of the country, stay a few days in a safe community and return rather than a thousand or more to fly to the states, stay there a few days and fly back.

Larry.

Welcome to expat blog, xpatlarry smile

I will move your topic to the forum Living in South America to give it a better visibility smile.

I'd invite you also to explore the various forums of South America which might help you in making up a decision on which country is most suitable to you (you'll find the links just above the list of messages in that forum).

Have a nice day further
Arlette

Hi Charles.

If this is in some way relevant to what I'm looking for I'd like to hear more about it.

Larry.

Re: Please Help Me Find a Place to Live

If you want information on living and moving to Ecuador I think it is.

The people that have recieve  the report in the past seem think so.

There are to ways to learn how things work down here make the mistakes yourself or listen to some one who has made them.

We have been here for a year and 8 months. Renting , buying getting a phone opening a bank account each is a event in itself.

Nothing happens like it does in the USA. One does pull up to a window and order and pull to the next and pick up the order.

One can waste a lot of money and time trying to find out how things work.

Good Luck in you travels

Sounds good Charles. Perhaps you can send me a copy of your report. My email is [deleted].

Larry.

Has anyone ever received a copy of Charles' report? He never sent me one.
