Hi all,

Newbie on the Mexico forum? Don't know how to start?

This thread is for you ;)

We invite you to introduce yourself on this topic, to share with us your expat story if you are already living in the country, or to tell us more on your expat projects in Mexico if you are planning to move there.

It will enable us to help you better but above all to wish you a warm welcome.

Welcome on board!

P.S : The thread New members of the Mexico forum, introduce yourself here – 1st quarter of 2015 continues below!

Greetings, We are a couple from Northern Michigan who are ready to flee the winters and white flakes falling from the sky.  We were raised in the Midwest but lived in San Francisco for nearly 30 years and are now back in the cold.  We are retired from the field of addiction treatment and for the past 15 years also B&B owners.  We have spent time in Mexico but primarily coastal areas and BC.
Now we are looking at SMA and planning to come for a few weeks in August-September.  If all works as we hope and when the house sells, then we will come for an extended stay of however long we want.  The lifestyle is so appealing to us at this time in our lives. We long for less "stuff",  simpler ways to spend our days, fresh farm markets, and getting to know new friends.

Hola!
Looking to move to Merida, not sure when, but keeping the dream alive!  Planning a two week trip there this summer and would like to be able meet other expats while visiting.  Where are some places that I would be able to meet others?

My name is Justus Opot  from Kenya I live in Juarez near the border with United States I would like to meet other Kenyans to form friendships Thanks

My name is Sonia Diaz and I am Mexican and live in San Miguel. My husband is Canadian and our daughter is 10. I work with expats daily from all over Mexico assisting in their relocating and living in Mexico.

To all expats, welcome to Mexico.

saludos

Sonia

Thank you.   I'm still in the research stage; but will keep you in mind.  What furniture if any should be shipped to mexico.  Off hand I would think it's too expensive to ship to bother.

Susan de nada. Unless valuable antiques or HUGE sentimental value my short answer is bring no furniture. Plus if renting, most are furnished.

best

Sonia

i was thinking of visiting Lake Chapala next week.  Any words of advice?

We lived in Ajijic before moving to SMA where we have been for 7 years. We much prefer SMA.

Hola from Mazatlan, Mexico!
My husband, Jon, and I live full-time in our motorhome with our miniature dachshund, Bella. We follow the sunshine and warmth, so we move around sometimes. Mexico is our home for the winter months and we spend most of our time in Mazatlan and Sayulita. We take our "home on wheels" with us to the United States for the summer when we visit our family.
We have a son and new granddaughter in North Carolina so we will visit the east coast for the first time this summer. Then we will head back to Oregon to see our daughter, our oldest son, and their families including two granddaughters. We visit our family and friends there, camp in the beautiful parks, and enjoy the fall sunshine on the west coast before returning to Mexico.
I write several blogs and have published a book about our adventures and life in Mexico. You can view these at my website: HealthyLivingandTravelinginMexico.com. I look forward to meeting more expats in Mexico on this blog. We are in Mazatlan now and will be here for several more weeks, enjoying the beautiful weather, wonderful people, and simpler Mexican life.

Hi:   Lived in Mexico in the l950s for awhile and then started returning again to Cancun area in l990.  Usually there three times a year.  Planning now to relocate when I retire.

My name is Chris (Cristina).  I'm from the US and have traveled quite a bit in Mexico over the last 15 years, always more to see. I've been living in Izamal, a small town about an hour from Merida, in the Yucatan, since August of 2014. I built a house of my own here, left everything I had ever owned in the states and started over.  I retired early from a long career in rehabilitation and health care to do some writing. Izamal seems to be the perfect place for getting quiet and doing the kind of focused work that writing requires.  Slow pace of life, cheap to live here, tranquil.  And Merida is not far away for those days when I need a city (and some better food).

Since 2000, I've been involved in theater work and I have taught writing classes for adults as part of a local non-profit organization.  I know enough Spanish to understand most of what people are saying, read it even better and can speak well enough to navigate unfamiliar places and have dinner conversations. I live close to a friend, but am looking for new friends who might want to explore Merida and the Mayan sites, cenotes and other interesting places in the Yucatan. So happy to be living in Mexico!

Hi,

I'm Ian from England and I've travelled around Europe, Australia, South East Asia and India. I came to Mexico initially to do a three month Yoga Teacher Training course in Oaxaca and met a Mexican girl. We are going to try living in D.F. (where she has lived all her life) and when I come back after a short trip home in July to gather some more funds I'll be working teaching yoga, giving workshops and cacao ceremonies and continuing with some online business and freelance writing.

Hope to meet some fellow expats sometime!

Hello! Im from Argentina, just arrived in Mexico almost 2 months ago and im looking for any native german speaker i can hang out with so as to make friends and improve my german.

I know where i want to move, but as the old expression goes that is easier said then done. I by rare chance just happen to fall in love with a girl from Salitllo Mexico. So much that I have been trying to find a company that would hire me and sponsor my Visa. I worked in the oilfield as a diesel mechanic and Supervisor for a long time. Well that's my story and why im trying to move to Mexico  :top:

I worked for GM in Saltillo 30 years ago.  There were several Americans working as contractors for Mexican and American companies who came into Mexico on tourist Cards.  If you want to take the chance on working illegally, that's the quickest way, not that I recommend it to anyone.

I would really like to do it the right way, but i do appreciate the reply. If it comes down to that it may be a route i look in to. You wouldnt happen to know anyone to put me in touch with would you, even a conversations?

My connection to anyone who might help you find work in Saltillo ended a long time ago.

People with manual skills can work in the cash economy and stay under the radar.

A neighbor of mine who has a TV/Stereo repair shop started by his father that has been in business a long time tells me business continues falling off sharply because most people do as the US and replace rather than repair.  Is that happening where you live?

Yes, that is true the TV repair business is falling in Mexico too, but not so much as in the US, people here still prefer to fix their TVs, especially the flat screens that are pretty expensive. To fix a flat screen TV will cost you about about 500 - 2,000 pesos, while buying a new one will cost you up to 15,000 pesos or even more. The problem is that the newer TVs last much longer, so the demand for TV repair service is dropping significantely (people get rid of their old TVs and buy the new ones)

Thanks for the info.
I have a 42" plasma I bought in the US in 2006 in the US.  It's still going strong but maybe the picture a dimmed a bit.  If it ever does crap out would the 500- - 2000 estimate be in the ballpark?

:) Thank you for your interest gudgriefe, if you need my service some day, just give me a call, or email [email protected] . (I also repair home appliences and electronics). All repairs are done in your home (Queretaro area only). Trip charge - 200 pesos (only the first trip is charged), total TV repair cost (labor + parts) is usually between 500 - 2000 pesos. In some cases I cannot provide same day repair service because I need to buy parts. In many cases 1-2 trips would be enough to fix your TV.

Hi everyone. I'm 34, from Central California. Looking for a cool city in Mexico to move to! I wonder what's the "portland" or "austin" or "seattle" of mexico? Like a place where they support local artists, have a vibrant local music scene, kinda hipster ish?

Greetings!

Hello all....I'm excited to head out to San Miguel de Allende on June 22, 2015...and will stay for a few days..or perhaps for a lifetime!?!?  After much looking around...San Miguel...seemed like 'my  kind of town'....but I'll hopefully know when I get there... I would love to live there for at least a year, teach English, direct a play, act in a play, sing in a club...swim, hike, travel...just live!  If you have a wonderful rental for me..a studio, a lovely room in a gorgeous home,...a house share...I'm open, flex.  I am easy to get on with, good conversationalist, well read, knowledgeable about world events, philosophy, human behavior...great cook, caregiver of children, writing a novel about mothers/daughters...and more.  Take care, Connie

Hello,

Matt here, and just looking for fellow Filipinos who have gone to Mexico, if they could help me out with some of my inquiries. I'm trying to help a friend, also a Filipino, get a visa to travel to Mexico but since it's their first time and they plan to get a visa, what should they expect?

Any info is welcome.

Regards,
Matt

a show there, be in a play...love to perform.  Also..looking for new friends in that area..and
surrounding cities.  I will not have a car there...leaving mine in the states..but I hear
the buses are good... Take care, Connie

Hi!

Im planning on renting a place in Rosarito and speak some spanish.

I have a dog that I want to bring with me from the US.

I am looking for a beach condo but am open to finding a nice place that is good for me and my dog.

Working for finance companies and building websites has been my business for 20+ years.  I would love the opportunity to make connections and find a home in Rosarito!

Cheers!
