South Africa to Australia, debt?

Hi Guys ,

Myself and my wife are seriously considering immigration to Australia. We have been in contact with immigration specialists that have been very helpful. Unfortunately the cannot clarify on  my question. I would like to know if I have existing debt in South Africa, if I am allowed to immigrate to Australia and continue paying it there or is it compulsory to first consolidate the debt before your move.

I know it sound simple, some feedback from people that have experienced this or know about it will be appreciated.

Regards
Jacques

There is no hard and fast rule over the debt and the migration.
It would take 2 or three years for you to obtain the Australian citizenship.
If you have an agreement with your local financial institutions over debt settlement, it would be enough when applying for the visa.

For more information, please do respond to this post with the visa category, whether you have any negative ratings or blacklisted with any of the financial institutions in SA. Especially with anyone having physical operations in Australia.

I have no bad debt in SA, and no negative credit ratings. I only have car debt, but would like to give the car to my brother while I continue paying it of. Departing present.

My immegration specialist advised me to apply for the 190 state sponsored visa for skilled workers.

I hope that you don't drive a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. Therefore loan can not be consider as a negative factor when applying for a visa.

State sponsorship visa has a bit of a lengthy waiting time.

Probably by the time they call you for a visa interview, probably you can settle the loan :)

Are you in to business or doing a full time job in SA?

Talk to your visa consultant over trying for sub class 457 as, its giving much control over your visa and the future conversions.

Hi Clikbill

Thank you for entertaining my questions. I wish it was a Ferrari. I would like to come to Aus sooner than later and other immigration specialists advised me to go for the 457 Visa, I am just a little weary of it as it is an employer sponsored Visa, and as we all know anything can happen between employee and employer. Maybe somebody can share some experiences to put my mind at ease. I work for the SPAR supermarket group and I am a divisional specialist meat buyer.

Hi Jac,

457 is a employer sponsored category.
Employer doesn't need to be someone from Australia as it has the provisions to support new companies setting up in Australia.
Australia's vibrant economy requires new businesses to come in and contribute.
If you are after the 457 category, there is a self funded option.
Doesn't need big cash in hand for this.
Any start-up owner can succeed.

There are things I can directly post here. I think I have already give you a hint over what is available in public domain.

Do you have a email address where I can forward the remaining details.

PM me the email addy.

I will share the classified information. I do not want to leave the remaining details freely available to everyone.
Especially to some south Asian nationals as they have already flooded the system and spoiled it :)

Cheers mate!
