Hi everyone - I'm new to SG and hoping to meet interesting people of all stretches of life.

Making new friends... is oh soo difficult

As we age it becomes difficult to come out of our shell and make friends. Hence a few of us hit the bars for anonymity or some of us just try to carry on no matter how bored we are with our office colleagues and just talk shop.

Perhaps this is the reason some of you may have noticed a proliferation of networking parties. I would like to get to know people, but how .. sometimes its difficult to overcome shyness.

Been shy for the past 9 yrs n counting...

Hi Yhanie,

Its a blessing for everyone that thru this blog people
Can make friends and some ways can release some
Stress.

Yhanie, I have circle of friends that most of the professionals
are present. IT, Nurses, Pharmacist, F&B , doctors, Engineers,
etc. So amazing that I met them for a short period of time.

If you are interested to meet my friends and be your friends too,
I am willing to met up withyou.

I am a license Pharmacist in Philippines and working here in
Singapore dor 6 years.

I am excited to be one of your friends.

God bless Yhanie.

looking for a good friend. call [Moderated: Please send numbers in private]

@ ski_singapore: A few words about yourself would be most welcomed :)

It's not hard looking for friends or probably u r too choosy hahahahah

Don't be choosy and I'm sure u get new friends lol

I was in the same situation. I've been working here in Singapore for more than two years. In those two years, I have met a handful & we clicked pretty well. We hang out from time to time to de-stress & ending up having a good time. We're laid back when we do. We have become good friends. I am hoping to meet more in the future. Hit me up! Cheers fellas! :-)

Money, Champagne and good looks usually help. The expat crowd is fairly inner circle with their own thing going on. Once I got into the VIP tables things started rolling. But still very status and class society linked, e.g. check out Tanjong Beach Club on Sundays. Good luck!

I think it's pretty hard to make friends sometimes because a lot of people in Singapore are overworked. I know someone working at Quiznos who works for about 50 or so hours a week and he's not a manager. I knew another person who was made to work an 80 hour workweek in another one of those types of places. It's insane. This is probably why a lot of people use sites like this one to make new friends :P

A good start is just to introduce yourself to your neighbours :). Just knock at their door, say hi and if they are nice and interested in making friends it shouldn't be too hard. When we moved in to our condo we made a BBQ and invited all of our neighbours. Some showed up, some didn't but most of them turned out to be great people and we're are really good friends with tow of the couples now :).

Hi Joyti ,

I alsmot in singapore around three years. If u interest in travelling and clubbing , Plz send email to me .
[email protected].

I don't mind to hang out. Message me.

If u think u can feel comfortable with that person then u need to make the first move.Start by asking for directions and start a conversation.

will commit n comply to good friends wishes

sounds like a good idea... how do I connect with you to hang out with you?

How to make friends in Singapore?  :o

Geez, just like you would make friends anywhere else.

hahahaha agreed!

Hi everyone,
I'm Yen. I have just graduated from Ha Noi University, Vietnam. This year i intend to go to Singapore for a short term internship. i'm looking forward to having more new friends and new experiences in this nice country.
i hope to receive some guide from you who have been living in Singapore.
How is life in Singapore, is it busy ?
How to make friends with the singaporeans and the foreigners?
how much money we must pay for renting house a month and living expenses ?
could i find a job as a server in restaurant or the other jobs by myself or i must ask internship guide centre for a help?
what should i prepare before going there?
i haven't ever gone there so I'm worried about. i hope to get your help.

Thank and best regards (^-^)

Yes, life is generally busy in Singapore - but of course it depends on what you make out of it!

Just like anywhere else: Go to events, pubs, concerts, arrange activities with colleagues, etc. There are millions of possibilities, you just have to take them!

Yen101091 wrote:

Renting a house costs at least S$5000/month, an apartment S$2500/month or more, sublet rooms (in shared flats, with limited amenities and privacy) can be had for S$800/month.

You are not allowed to do any work besides the internship - and it is NOT a good idea to break the rules in Singapore!

Yen101091 wrote:

Internship, visa, flight ticket - and an open mind!

Off-topic, but since you asked: You can wirk on a DP after getting a Letter of Consent (LoC) from MoM. Or you get an EP instead of DP, if you are eligible.

Thank you for your prompt reply.  :)

Networking is probably the best way to 'make friends,
