A question if I may.
What are the steps for us to be able to live in the DR for 6 months out of a year?
We are considering this type of move within the next couple of years.
Will we be allowed to work part time as well or is that only for full time residence?
Thanks in advance for your help.

we dont have part time residency. You can get your residency and cecula and live here as many months as you want.
IF you want to work you must get resdidency.
Many just show up and live here for 6 months of the year and pay the overstay fine when you leave.

So if we decide to do a trial 6 or 12 month rental before committing to a move, we should get residency? Can you leave and come back a few days later every 30 days?

yes you currently can do that. Here is the over stay fee schedule:
De 1 dia a 3 meses RD$2,500.00
De 3 a 9 meses RD$4,000.00
De 9 a 12 meses RD$5,000.00
De 12 a 18 meses RD$6,500.00
De 18 a 24 meses RD$8,000.00
De 24 a 30 meses RD$9,500.00
De 30 a 36 meses RD$11,000.00
IF you are not staying beyond 9 months it may not make sense money wise to leave for a few days as the fee is about $88 a person and $112 for a year. So may not be worth the hassle
