Moving from India to Muscat

Dear Friends hope all are doing good..
I'm working for an IT and Management Consultancy company.
I've been deputed here from India for one year starting from this march and the company offered the following package.
I've to evaluate and accept the offer in a week's time starting from today.
We are family of three (me,My wife and 6 moths old Boy baby)..

So I need your guidance and support in evaluating the same.

Our company is offering me 295 OMR with the following break up:
150- Living allowance
60- Travel allowance personal and official
25- Phone (mobile/GSM) allowance for personal and official purposes
60- Monthly medical allowance

Along with a house rent allowance restricted to 220 per month (capped) and

One time OMR 350 is offered as relocation charges from India to here (for purchase of furniture and other household utensils).

Yearly oneway tickets to family FROM MUSCAT TO INDIA only.

I'll be getting monthly salary in India which would be around 350 (1 OMR= 160).

Now my concerns are I need to visit client places very frequently. So

1) with 220 rials, can i get any 1 BHK near to Al- Qurum (Al-Shatti Plaza area) where our office is located?

2) I'll have to frequently travel to Wadi kabir,Ruwi from office (al-qurum) to meet Clients so will the travel allowance of 60 OMR be enough for my official and personal travels? (I don't have any car/license..need to hire cab for all purposes).

Kindly suggest me the best location to hire a 1BHK for 220 OMR as monthly rent and managing travel needs within OMR 60 for both office and personal purposes.

Also pls suggest me which aspects can be negotiated with our employer to make all ends meet in a professional way.

Waiting for your warm suggestions at the earliest...thanking you in advance..
-Dilip

Hi pdkonline,

Seriously reconsider your offer.

The package offered is way too low for you to even consider living comfortably.

Al Shatti Plaza area in Al Qurum is perhaps amongst the most expensive of neighborhoods. First of all, you may not be able to find a 1BHK. And even if you do, the rents would be almost double of what you have budgeted for.

Transportation cost would also be more than what has you have accounted for.

A minimum of R.O. 1,000/- would be required if you intend staying anywhere in and around your work spot.

Please read the numerous informative posts in the forum on the cost of living in Muscat to get an idea of what to expect.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot Sumithran.

As suggested, I'll go through the posts and assess what can be negotiated.

If required I shall seek your further help from you all.
