Approx. Cost of living in Algiers - February 2015

1 - Location : Algiers center

Accommodation prices :
3 Bedroom flat : £110,000
3 Bedroom flat rent : £300 /month

2 - Algiers - other / outskirts

3 Bedroom flat : £40,000-£60,000
3 Bedroom flat rent : £170 /month

Location : Algiers in general
Tube :
50 DA ( 30p ) for 1 trip, 1 tube ticket lasts an hour just incase you get on the wrong lane
400 DA ( £2.80 ) for 10 trips
1800 DA /month ( £12.50 /month ) for unlimited trips

Food prices :
£100 /month is more than enough for me, but I'd say £150-£250 just to be sure

Health prices :
You can subscribe to Algeria's medical insurance 'Chiffa' for up to 100% Refunds on all special treatment. A box of paracetamol for example is not refundable and costs 60DA ( 40p )

Education prices :
Free from the beginning till the end, however you do have to buy notebooks & pens etc, which can be slightly expensive

Energy prices :
1L of fuel for diesel cars is 13DA (8p) , while gas & normal fuel prices are around 20DA/L (13p)

Common bills :
Internet : 2000Da /month for a 2mb/s internet connection
3600 DA /month for a 4mb/s internet connection
5000 DA /month for an 8mb/s internet connection

200DA for 200mb of 3G (lasts for a couple of days if you don't use it )
1000 DA per 1GB 3G (lasts a month if you don't use it)

Television :
Free
for football fans : Bein sports hd sat. Receiver : 35000 DA & 10.000DA renew per year after that
otherwise you can subscribe to a server for 3500DA /year for all the european channels

Mobile phone :
Depends on how much you talk, I barely spend anything on mobile plans unless I need some 3G. There is no unlimited calls / texts plan, unless you have a Djezzy mellenium sim card ( prices vary.. 1000-5000 DA/month )

Good menu @Restaurant :
A nice dinner at a decent restaurant would be around 1000DA - 2000DA ( £6 - £12 )
A quick and nice Meat & chips sandwich is like 150DA (£1)

Coffee / Drink :
Coffee : 30 DA ( 18p )
500ml soda / juice : 50DA ( 30p )

Cinema tickets :
I do not recommend going to the cinema in Algiers
it's about 200DA (£1.30 ) though
