Help! We're Trapped in Salt Lake City!

Joan and her husband ("Father Tom") have been married five years and want to get out of Salt Lake City, Utah.  They're struggling, unemployed, and put out a call on this blog for "any help."

They haven't visited EC yet but have started working on a travel itinerary SLC-MIA-UIO-CUE  for a visit, as their lease is up next summer, according to the profile.

They may need more than simple airline advice, IMO.

I'm sending them a PM to let them know about this thread, and hopefully start a dialog.

The Home Office has been discouraging extended dialogs on the New Members thread lately, and that's why this separate thread was started.

Since the Original Post above, Father Tom posted on New Members, asking about Cuenca's altitude and any "things we need to do now" before an exploratory visit to Ecuador.

Yes, Cuenca's altitude is more than 8,000 feet above sea level.  And not everybody thrives at low-oxygen altitude.  This is one reason why many Expats prefer to live at the EC Pacific Coast.  At altitudes of Cuenca's level and higher, exertion in activities such as walking uphill or even light exercise can be exhausting almost immediately for some folks.  Others' systems adapt after a week or two, and they do well.

Consider a side-trip to Bahia de Caraques and Salinas on the coast as a back-up plan.  These are some of the popular coastal cities for North American Expats.

As for things to do before the trip:   make sure your passports are good for at least six months AFTER the travel period....learn more Spanish...and get familiar with Ecuador through reading Expat.com, other EC-related websites and a Lonely Planet or other EC guidebook.

In addition to Miami,  Atlanta and Houston are U.S. hubs for Ecuador flight connections.

Visit cheapoair.com to search flight itineraries and fares.

thanks for the info joan

Three questions here from the inquiring-minds-want-to-know department....

1.  Why does the avatar of "Father" depict a female figure...

2.  Your profile says you want to be around "vicambaits."  Can you clarify....

3.  What progress are you making towards no longer being "trapped" in SLC...

Hello cccmedia,

Please note that this thread has been moved to the USA forum for a better visibility and interaction with the other members.
