Moving Family To Malta - Taking the car and paying tax

I wonder if anyone can confirm a few things for me. . 1) I am looking to bring my car to malta from the UK, i understand the car would be exempt from import tax but am struggling to understand the full extent of the fee for registering the car. If the websites are correct i would be required to pay  €800 for a car that is only worth £800 in the UK and valued at  €1200 in malta .. Surely this can't be correct. Can anyone help.
2) Income tax - If my earnings are paid in the UK but transferred to malta do i have to pay tax in malta? It would be taxable in the UK I believe so how does the treaty between the UK and Malta work to avoid double taxation

Any links to quality information would be appreciated

The tax for the car is registration tax not import tax, this is the link to work out payment.

If you have owned the vehicle for two or more years and can prove it, you may be exempt from this payment.
If you sell the vehicle( once registered)  you would have to pay the registration tax.
Yearly road fund licence is still payable.

You will have to register for tax in Malta the amount you pay will depend on your circumstances and how the double taxation agreement works for you.

Thanks Terry. So there is no import tax just registration tax which is where the exemption is?

Many thanks
