I am considering taking early retirement at age 62 and relocating to Uruguay. However, I am concerned about the cost of living there. I may need to supplement my social security by teaching ESL classes there. I am certified in TESOL and have teaching experience.
Does anyone on this blog have any idea of what an ESL teacher would make in Uruguay and whether or not this would be full or part time employment? Is there a big difference between private ESL Institutes versus public educational facilities?
My general observation is that there seems to be a big disconnect between wages and the cost of living in Uruguay.
The minimum wage there is one of the lowest in South America. This seems odd given the modern infrastructure there.
Any suggestions?

I think some of them might know.
Yes wages here are low compared to cost of living. Inflation is around 9 to 10 % per year as well.
Your age may be an issue here, most jobs will give a maximum age of around 50, I have a neighbour who is Uruguayan who could not find a job as she is over 50. The retirement age here is 60 for men and women but maybe you will find something privately. ( Just a heads up! )
