SS Letter + FBI Report Apostilled Directly? Or other steps First?

My mother got her SS income letter and FBI report.

I was reading something that made me think that I can't get FEDERAL LETTERS apostilled directly.

I think they first need to be mailed to the DC authentications office? Can someone confirm this? And, will there be any other steps after the DC authentication before getting them notarized then apostilled?

If it matters...the SS letter has a California office address at the bottom. The FBI report has  WV address.

Did you consult an EC immigration attorney or a visa specialist -- or the consulate you mentioned earlier -- as was suggested when you posted about this on December 2nd....

Such parties, not Expat.comgers, would be the more reliable sources for complex apostille procedures...especially since they would have the latest information on any changes in the procedures.

It's unclear what you read, what it specifically said and what it means to get a letter "apostilled directly."

If you don't want to consider using an EC attorney and-or your consulate is not being responsive, consider getting a free evaluation from one (or more) of the various apostille services.  They deal with this stuff every day and should be up-to-date.

You can review what they tell you and then decide whether the procedures are something you can handle yourself, or whether you need the services they offer.

You can do a google search to find them.

Here's a paragraph from one such service at apostille.us ...

"How to get an apostille:
Getting documents apostilled can be a complex task, especially if it is your first encounter with the entire document authentication subject.  Fortunately, we have developed an online system which will allow you to obtain the document in the most convenient way possible with the minimal effort on your side.  Our apostille specialists will review your documents, advise of any required steps on your part and confirm apostille eligibility within one business day."
