Dear All on Expat.com,

I am a Filipino hoping to work in Bermuda. I am 40 years old, male with a wife and son to leave behind, if ever.

I joined this forum because up to this day, i am not 100% sure if I have made the right decision. I know that Bermuda is a tourist haven but I do not see much news from Filipinos about working condition in Bermuda, i.e., safety and cost of living. Whenever I read articles on the web I often see warnings on the high cost of living.

But long story short, would you know if a take home salary of 3700 per month (after deductions) would be enough to enable me to send money back home to my family and leave some for me to save?

Thank you very much for any advice.

Sincerely,

Ritche

That would be tight. accommodation for a single person can be found for around $1800 per month but it will be small or at least a distance form the city. More likely is that you will have to pay around $2000 or more per month.  Then cost of living per week will be in the region of $200. Add fuel / moped or bus pass.  You will have to have health insurance and might find your employer makes a deduction for that. Flights here will be costly so you may not get home as much as your family would like. Electricity bills will not be less than $300 per month and gas too sometimes. TV and internet will also be around $300 per month.

It clearly is a lifestyle choice but I would think there are cheaper places to go to live that will provide similar send-home packages. Best outs

Hi folks-- I am hopefully moving to Bermuda in October or November with my pregnant wife--our first (and last!-I'm a very young 46!). Starting from scratch -so house to rent, car to buy, phones/TV/ water/ gas/ electric etc to sort out. And banking which is important. Hopefully we will be able to pick your brains re it all. Scarily exciting, and a great life opportunity for us...Cheers

Good afternoon :)

I finally received my Bermuda work permit and fly out in 10 days! Very excited to arrive and try life as an island girl.

I'm Scottish but have been living in Dubai for the past 2 years so it will be a big change for me.. Hopefully it won't take me too long to settle in.

If anyone has any tips on anything at all from what to bring / what to leave, best ways to meet people / socialise or where to find the best fish sandwich I'm all ears.

Thanks :D

Hiya Rinnie_Rambler,

Dubai to Bermuda-  that's quite a contrast!

We are up to our eyeballs in immigration paperwork just now- my employer has suggested turning up with clothes and a laptop- haha-- its the import duty thing thats the ballbreaker-- maybe somebody on here could enlighten us with how strict they are- I've got at least one guitar that needs to travel with me. Reckon we'll be spending a fair amount on extra baggage although BA have just increased their economy charges for this by 50%-FFS!!

I've got a Scottish acquaintance out there , so hopefully he can advise further. I'll ask him re meeting people etc. Found this:

expatexchange.com/ctryguide/4515/21/Bermuda/Expats-in-Bermuda-10-Tips-for-Living-in-Bermuda

Anyway, we are not due out until November-- hope your move goes well!!

Cheers

the link was to expat exchange website-  10 tips for living in Bermuda if it doesn't show here--you can search for it

Jampat,

It's a BIG contrast! But hopefully a good one  :top:

It took me a few months to sort all the paperwork but of course getting things in Arabic made it a bit more difficult - surely being in the UK its relatively straight forward? Are you almost done?

As for the import duty, I also have a Filipino friend who travelled from Dubai with just clothes and toiletries and smaller items and she informed me she paid no tax so im not sure what the rules are with regards to that  :/

I paid £45 for an extra suitcase with BA a few weeks ago and now it seems to be £60   :( I didn't know they had bumped the price! You've just ruined my packing happiness haha.

Thanks for the blog :)

Hey there, moved to Bermuda a couple of months ago. Any other newbies that have moved here recently? :)

Hello all,

I have been here 6 months now, I guess i count as a newbie too..

Bermuda is boring but I make a lot of money so I will be working here until I retire and move to the Philippines to receive my pension when I turn 55.

Hi if you would lime to call me or i could give you a call and talk to you about Bermuda

Hello expats.
I am currently considering a offer and
Butcher by trade.
Army veteran and finally got all kids in college. So now i want to venture out and enjoy the rest of life.
The best pay is 64,000 with monthly bonus. Recruiter said it would bring me up to 80g.
But after alot of research it seems that l would be living in poverty!
Any info is appreciated.

I just moved here recently and I have to ask, are they also going to pay your payroll tax and will they be offering you a housing allowance or paying your medical insurance?

Hi all,

I just moved here from New York City and am looking for any newbies (or tenured adventure buddies) who would be done for exploring Bermuda with me. I'm pretty easy going with places of visits etc. I'm in my 20s and still have a bit more energy in me to go out and party as well!
