Expat Blog Meet Up in Pattaya

Hello guys!

I moved to Pattaya two months ago. During my previous expat life in Dubai, thanks to this forum, I met some nice people, since we used to organize gatherings/parties/picnics...

Why don't we try to do  the same here?

I don't think it's impossible.

:)

Anyone?? (:

Hello sunshine_bg,

A little more patience please, your topic is quite new. ;)

Hello Priscila

I am patient :), but it seems to me this topic is useless, and that expats scene in Pattaya is not vibrant. (:

Maybe it's just my impression, and I don't mean to offend anyone, but the majority of expat population here are retirees, and they don't visit forums so often.

Interesting observations regarding Pattaya and retirees. As for not visiting forums, maybe you are looking on the wrong forum?
In my experience this forum tends to deal with practical questions folk have about Thailand.

The Bangkok secton used to have meet-ups but I haven't seen any activities lately.

I personally find in Thailand that most expats outside of the tourist traps tend to keep themselves to themselves. Many of us have Thai friends too.

I hope you find some friends to link up with, I wonder, are there any expat organisations in Pattaya? I know that Chiang Mai has an active expats club for example.

Thanks for your answer thetefildon.

Well, I am not against having Thai friends, but I can't speak Thai, and many Thai people can't speak English.

As for this forum - I used to think that the purpose of expat forums is not only dealing with practical expat questions, but socializing/finding new people...etc.

Again, in my opinion,Thailand doesn't  have much of an expat community for people in their 30's and 40's.
Sure there are plenty of expats passing through as tourists but not long term young expats living and working here to socialise with and develop long term friendships with.

I think that expat life here is quite different to your last place(Dubai?). Partly I think this is because the majority of expats in Thailand don't come here to work like they do in the Middle East.

Generally speaking I think(no evidence for this) that expats in Thailand tend to fall into an older age bracket 50+. These folk, mostly men, are here for a variety of reasons, some are married to locals whilst others are just enjoying a relaxing and relatively cheap retirement.

Take a look back through this forum and check out the numberous posts "looking for friends" and note the responses (or lack of them).

BTW you say you don't speak Thai, so have you considered signing up for a language course, perhaps a place to meet some like minded expats?

Like I said above good luck with your quest to make friends.

Language course is a good point.

All so going to University restaurant around 12:00 and sit and eat, look around.
People there WILL at one point start coming to you and talk to you. Maybe not the first few times, but soon.
And maybe so ask you if you want to go out with them, maybe come see there home, invite you go see "put in own words here " together.
They want to show you There Thailand, explain for you the good about Thailand, maybe learn you some Thai, and you help them on English.

I did this my self at that start here, and meet some good people this way.
i spend 1 week with a young man every day he come pick me up at my hotel, show me around, he family home, Private University party, where he work and so on.
He only Talk Thai, and i only talk English (And Danish he he) at that point.
But i have a great time and learn a lot.

I all so got invite to come and eat at with 2 girls at one of there Mom and Dad house, when i come there, there where like 25 women, all there so see me, and ask me 1 mill. questions.
They girls Mom's, grand Mom, Ant, friends from school.
I was the first foreigner the see so close and talk to.
I got a lot of hug from Grand Mom he he
That was very wired(in a good way) but super fun after all.

I do understand if a Women are more "afraid" to go out with people they don´t know.

I hope you find what your looking for.

Kindly.

Hello there sunshine!, well I'm here in Pattaya now' i live near south Pattaya while my work is at north.
:)

Pattaya Expat club have a lot of meet ups , but I think the majority of the members are in their 50-60s .

Most younger people just meet in bars I guess.

There are (or were) 2 very active expat clubs in Pattaya. Googling Pattaya expats will bring up lots of info. The one with which I am familiar meets at the Mercure Hotel every Sunday morning and usually has a guest speaker on a range of topics, some more interesting than others. Meeting times are given on their website. (near the bottom).
You would be made very welcome if attending alone although you may feel more comfortable with your husband as it will be mostly older men, but some Thai girlfriends and wives also go along.

Also the Thaivisa forums have a ladies section.

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Lancashier Lad, I don't like the concept of Pattaya expat clubs. I don't want to offend anyone, but I'd like to socialize with expats of younger age..

This topic is dead. (:

Would suggest you attend at least one meeting with an open mind rather than having preconceived ideas.
There is no requirement to join the club to attend a meeting.

You come here stating you want to meet people but when suggestions are made with good intent you self block opportunities.

Wait for me then.. i'll be back on the 13th of December from the philippines. I do need people to hang out with. LOL

Ticket in hand. I will be there for my first day on New Years Eve

I live in Pattaya, Jomtien beach. Want to meet people to go out, play sports and chat.
Ones with motobike are especially welcome!) Want to continue my Spanish exchange as well!
Love Spanish, you are so sunny to me!

Hi, Domenica! How are you doing? :)
Well, I have just moved to Pattaya and I am also looking for girl friends to hang out with. It would be great if we could meet sometime!

Ops, Dominica...sorry :)

That sounds like a good idea you have.  No reason why that can't happen.  I am presently in California but looking seriously at spending this coming summer months there.  I have been to Bangkok three times for short visits, but never to Pattaya.  Are u enjoying Pattaya?      Tom

Hi Tom,

Oh, absolutely! Pattaya is worth visiting (for a family holiday or solo traveler). It's less than 2 hours from Suvarnabhumi airport and very easy to get to.

The city offers lots of entertaining tourist attractions and is perfect for outdoor recreation - such as diving, snorkeling, fishing, golfing (there are many great golf courses around here), motorcycle tourings, parasailing, skydiving etc.

You can find affordable accommodation by the sea and various overrated restaurants with accessible prices.

The weather is good (sunny all year long), the air is clean, it's quite safe and very easy to move around.

Besides, there are wonderful islands nearby, with white sand and clear water; and it's quite simple  to get over there from Pattaya.

I meant highly rated restaurants  :dumbom:
