Hi my name is George,

I am a commercial and editorial photographer, I have also been known to write on occasion (I wrote a column on desktop publishing and digital photography for the Bangkok Post for over 10 years), and I operated a computer graphics and typesetting business (A3 CompuPrint) in Bangkok from the mid 80s to the turn of the century.

The first time I crossed the border into Cambodia was in 1979, while on assignment for the UNHCR as a photographer. In June of 1980 I was captured by Vietnamese forces (and released about five days later), unfortunately this made it impossible for me to get a Visa for either Cambodia or Vietnam for the next ten years.

Around 2000 I started visiting Cambodia again and by 2007 I started using Siem Reap as my base in South East Asia. I did return to the US for several years recently but have now returned to Siem Reap and am looking for both short and long term assignments in Cambodia and the rest of South East Asia.

Anyway, I am planning my move to Cambodia, as an English teacher or in any other trade field (am a German citizen and trained in Germany as a specialist in International trade). Any help with getting a decent accommodation, so that I can lay my head down and then go on a job hunt. My plan is to be there for about two weeks and then returning to Germany. If I am luck to land a job, I shall be returning as fast as possible (say within a week or two after my arrival back in Germany). My goal Siem Reap.

I´m a Swedish guy moving to PP next year to start my own business and I´m looking for any kind of job opportunities for my Philippina girlfiend.
She speaks good english and has an unfinished education in tourism so far.
I understand it´s hard getting a job that doesn´t require Khmer language skills and I´m just looking for any information to help us find a job for her. We will also try to find a university to finish her education.
On the social side I'm a Manchester United fan and we both like playing volleyball, but getting into any kind of ball game team would be great.

I've been spending at least two months a year in Cambodia since 2007 when I toured some of the countryside, not ALL or it, by bicycle. I went from PP to Kompot, then to Kep (only 26km), back to Kompot for a night, and then the longest leg of my trip: Kompot to Sihanoukville—about 120km. I forgot that the last five km or so into S'ville is uphill.

Along the way I met so many friendly people. Monks invited me to stay with them twice and private citizens took me in sometimes when I was lost. Many people helped or encouraged me, making that experience something I'll never forget.

After Sihanoukville I cheated and took my bike by bus back to PP for a few days rest. Then I followed the river northeast, making it as far as Kratie before my vacation time was running out and I had to return to Japan.

Why did I use so much space to brag about the bike trip, besides Red Bull? One reason was simply to brag, but the other is the real reason. I learned that the country people of Cambodia are some of the warmest I've ever encountered in my travels. We couldn't always communicate well using words, but we DID communicate.

So if you start to get angry with pesky tuk-tuk drivers, or get fed up with the big city in general, take a visit to the countryside.

I retired from teaching in 2012 and get a pension from the Private University Pension Fund of Japan.

I  am currently looking for a part-time job or freelance jobs, preferably with an NGO or similar organization. My skills, besides teaching, are writing, editing, copywriting and related work. I did these jobs in Japan while teaching full-time. I also wrote three books while in Japan and wrote book reviews for The Daily Yomiuri. After learning more about the country and about charitable organizations here, I hope to start a small org to produce very low-cost housing for deserving Cambodians. By "deserving" I mean each head-of-household, or a member of that household, would be expected to learn how to build the houses through OJT, and then pass that knowledge to others who would learn to do the same.

The houses I hope to build were designed by the NGO, Architecture Commons. It won a contest for best design of a house for US $300 sponsored by the magazine Fast Company. When I asked Architecture Commons for permission to use their design in Cambodia, they not only said, yes, but volunteered to send a team to build a few of the houses for me. They thought I was already an NGO and kindly explained the best way to begin starting one. I'd be happy to carry out the project under the umbrella of an existing NGO or similar org.

I got permission to use the house plans a year before I retired and now I'm still looking for land. I have the design and people to build them and teach me to build them, but I need land, not to own, but to use semi-permanently. If you know of an organization that might help, please let me know.  I'll be researching this topic since I plan to be in Cambodia for the long haul.

When I contacted one org that sometimes funds projects like mine, I spoke to a woman in the US who told me, "No one would want to live in a house like that with mud brick walls." How  many people in Cambodia have you already met or seen, who would love to have a roof over their heads? I told her, "You should meet the two women who work at my regular restaurant; they live in an alleyway." Clearly she had never been to Cambodia.

Travelled to Cambodia 4 times this year and decided its where I want to be . So house in UK is rented plane ticket is booked and I will be their in two weeks . I would like to meet both expat and locals so please feel free to get in touch .

I have some work arranged for January in Hong Kong but I would like to be able to earn a living in Cambodia . I am a boat builder and work on super yachts both in construction and fit out .

Is there a boat leisure industry in Cambodia ?

Hello expats!

We are a portuguese couple and we have been traveling for 2 months with  2 motorbike across Vietnam. We want to continue our trip and go to Laos and Cambodia, but we have heard conflicting information about the input and output of motorcycles (Vietnamese).

We would like to know if we can cross the border from Vietnam to Laos and Laos to Cambodia without problems?Alternatively, following Vietnam to Cambodia and cross the border to Laos (and eventually across the border to Thailand always with the Vietnamese bikes) would also be an option to consider.
