As of 16:30 hours today the Policia Federal have begun a 72 hour nationwide strike in protest of Decreto/Lei 9,266/2014, which in part prohibits the Federal Police from investigating political figures for crimes like corruption, graft, influence peddling, etc.

According to a DPF spokesman the Policia Federal is being destroyed, just when the Brazilian population most needs them to combate Organized Crime and Corruption.

This could well last much longer than the initially predicted 72 hours, so be prepared. It is going to have an effect on all foreigners who are about to enter into the permanency process or who have had their permanency granted and now want to register in the RNE and request their Cédula de Identidade Estrangeiro - CIE, extend their visa stay in Brazil (Prorrogação de Estada) and Brazilians who need to apply for a passport.

I guess that it's worth mentioning that since the Federal Police do not attend the public on weekends this 72 hour strike means Thursday, Friday and Monday. They won't be back until at least Tuesday morning.
