Moving to Scotland via an Ancestry Visa

Hi, My name is Lorraine and I am contemplating moving to NE Scotland in particular the Huntly, Port Elphinstone area. I was in a Huntly for the entire month of September and loved it. It is my understanding that I can stay in Scotland using an Ancestry Visa for up to six months and then apply for an extension. Does anyone know if this is true and also how easy is it to find accommodations for a six month period. I wouldn't be working while in Scotland as I am retired and have a pension. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
