Knowing If a Job Offer is Legitimate

Good day all,

I received a job offer from Istanbul Turkey as an Expat but I feel a little uneasy about it. How can I verify if this is legitimate? I tried calling the company but because of time zone differences I keep missing the office hours, I tried searching on the internet but the man who emailed me the job offer, application etc, I found nothing about him relating to the company.

Then I received an email from a lawyer with work permit application from the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Turkey but when I checked his name in Google - I see a number of persons with that name as well as, several scam blogs etc.

Can somebody help me?

Thanks
Tsahai

Hi,

Hello Tsahai,

If you got the offer by e-mail and they're asking you for money, then chances are 90% right there that it's a scam.

Read the following (closed) topic I posted for much more information about how to detect job and visa scams and protect yourself from them:

wjwoodward,

Thanks but they have not yet asked me for any money. I got an email from a man stated as the recruitment specialist detailing that my resume was recommended and my experience and qualification matches that which they require. I was then asked to outline my job preference, expected salary, possible start date, resume, references and outlining the various posts available etc. After I acknowledged, a few days later I received another email that my qualification was found suitable for a post and that I should complete an expatriate eligibility form. I did this, returned it and a few days later got another email to say after review and scrutiny, they are please to offer me the post outlining salaries, benefits etc, along an employment agreement. I completed the agreement and resent.

The following day I received a response informing that they received it and i will be contacted by a lawyer who will be handling my work permit etc through the Turkey Immigration Services (TIS) and also, HR will further contact me regarding the relocation process among other things.

The following day I received an email from a barrister with a work / visa permit form for my completion and submission with several attachments including, certification, police record, photo and scanned copy of my passport.

I am currently at the place of submitting  these documents but just want to be sure this is legit.

So far, I have not been asked to pay any money just submit documents which of course I believe any organization would require of a new employee but what concerns me is the fact that I have not received any communication from the company's HR department........

What y'all think about this?
