Best area to live near school...

HI K,

Well there is a chance weŽll be moving to Kuala Lumpur. Nothing define yet. But if we go, the BISKL will be in the deal. IŽve heard good reports about the school in this forum, so I guess its a good one. My kids are 10 and 4.

Best,
Brigitte

Since the Malaysian government lifted the percentage of local children who could attend international schools, long waiting lists have developed.

I suggest your first step is to contact a handful of those schools you think sound OK for you and your family to see if they have a waiting list and how long it is.  You may not have much choice and need to sign up for the newly opened schools.

Hi Angani_b,

Welcome to Expat-Blog :)

Please note that this thread is a bit old... 2011 :D

Feel free to create a new topic on the Kuala Lumpur Forum ;)

Thank you

Thanks for the  Maximilian . I have open up another topic :)

I used MoveCorp and found them very reliable and their agent in Malaysia was very professional - no losses or breakages and no issues like demands for extra money (you must declare the full load to be packed and shipped accurately to them if they are not doing a survey). You can find them on the internet.  As shipments take 6-10 weeks to arrive, if your girls need something before then, see if you can arrange a small air shipment with essentials.

Thanks Gravitas... I will check it out...

Hi you seem to be the best person to ask is there any houses with a garden. Everything seems Condos and are Viila,s with garden and pool. We have 1 dog who is part of the family and must come with us and our 7 and 10 year old are used to a big garden and pool. It feels like KL is not set up for families are apartments and high rise buildings.
We have several choices where we could live and KL was suggested because you can afford a gardener and cleaner.
I have been reseaching but it seems to be all high rise is this so.

Hi, I felt that I've seen your topic before....also about having a dog \ difficult to find house with garden, etc.

Might I know what area you are looking?

What is your budget \ which school you plan to send your children to....???
I live in Ampang closed to few international school....if you are interesting in this area, drop me a msg about the info you need.

ps, Ampang has lots of the house with garden \ pool....I've lived there for the past 20 years.

Since you are so well informed about international schools, could you tell me something about the Australian one? We are moving to KL in December so looking around for options at the moment. Thanks!

There is only one school that has the Australian curriculum - AISM

Hello,  I came across this thread and wanted to say thanks.
I'm only 2 years later than when you chatted but I'm also following my husband to KL in August with our 2 kiddies.
This has been a huge help as I was looking at the British International School and suburbs close by.
Coming for a 'look and see' in May and then Big move in August to start new school year.

Saw a few people mentioned about Nexus International School. As mentioned earlier they are particular on their qualifications of the teachers with well structure curriculum and co-curriculum. *

You'll find luxurious homes and condos with this kind of allowance.

Property agents in Malaysia usually see expats (or their companies) as walking bank accounts and tend to show them very high end units even if they specifically asked for decent housing. They also tend to show you properties that are 20% above your price range. Finally, you can easily negotiate down the prices of high end properties (the rental market is not doing so well) and you should know that the agent's commission is paid by the owner / seller.

Good hunting !

NOT ALL.. It is a very good point that agents actually earning the commission from landlords, not from the expats. If expats like the unit shown, they will be more than happy to top up a little bit I believe. If you're not comfortable with the agent, you can always go to second, third or fourth one.. The market is so competitive so you may end up getting better deal from the initial one. And yes, no harm always try to negotiate the rental  :)

Hi I'm Maria from real estate agency.
I would like to help you in finding a good area with international schools.

Hi,

We are relocating to KL in March /April. I need help on the following :
We are considering Garden International school in Mt.Kiara area for our daughter, 10 years old. My work place would be near KLCC. My wife does not drive. What area should we consider considering safety, convenient school bus pick ups, and a not too demanding journey to office. We are comfortable living in Condominium, not keen on villas. We would prefer living not too far from the school.

And, are there any other British Schools that are equally good.

Hi,

I recommend considering the resort township at Valencia.  There are two international school in the area. IGB ELC.
