Permesso di Soggiorno for travelling in EU?

Ciao,

I'm an Indonesian, residence in Italy. Finally received my legal documents for me to stay here in Italy; Permesso di Soggiorno, Carta Identita, etc.

I am wondering, in my carta identita is written is not valid for travelling abroad. I'm thinking to travel in some EU countries, can I just do that with my passport and PDS?

I need more information about this, thanks in advance :)

Jeanny

Once you had a Permesso di Soggiorno you can travel to all the Schengen Area countries for tourism without asking for a Visa and you have to come back in Italy before three months, that's why you have the right to stay in Italy but you don't have the italian citizenship that allows you to travel and stay in EU for as long as you want

Ok, ic now. Thanks Cesar 77 for the reply :)

Zyra_jean, could please let me now if you managed to travel within the Schengen Area countries using your Permesso di soggiorno?

Thanks for your help...

Ciao Nighrage,
Yup you need the pds to travel to other schengen countries, they even wouldn't check your passport. I traveled without any problem.

Thanks a million.:)

hi everybody! i live in Italy i've got a permesso di siogiorno and i wanna know if i can go to Ireland. i know that i can't go to England, but don't know how it works about Ireland. thanks

Ireland isn't Schengen so there will be passport control if you're coming from Italy.

Ireland as UK did not sign the Schengen Convention, therefore your Italian permesso di soggiorno will be not allow you to enter  in Ireland.
Anyway, I paste you the website that explain well and indicate a list of countries whose citizens will not need visa to land in Ireland. Otherwise, you will need to obtain the visa by the Irish embassy in Rome.

You need your passport and permesso di sogiorno. Carta d'identita is not valid to travel outside Italy. I hope this is clear to you.

hello,
I am a non-EU and I study in Italy. Recently I have left my passport for UK visa at the Rome embassy. However, I need to travel to Greece in the next days and I wanted to ask whether anybody knows that I can travel with my permesso di soggiorno and carta d'identita? Untill now I have always traveled in Europe with my passport and permesso di soggiorno...any ideas?

why you like to travel to greece.also you can travel to here

As long as u have your permesso di soggiorno u can travel.. based on my experience i always show my permesso and they dont ask for my passport anymore..

The Schengen agreement states that there is no passport control at any internal border. That is unless the local police feels the need for a specific control.
Despite what I read in this thread though, PDS is not a valid travel document, nor is the Carta di Identita if you are not an Italian citizen.
In theory you need to carry a valid Passport with you at all times.

Many people travel with PDS and CI within the Schengen area by car or other land transport, also because most of the countries are unaware that CI is a valid travel ID only for Italians.

My friend from Lithuania though, got in trouble in Switzerland without her passport and took her money and stress to get escorted back into Italy.

If you travel by plane, you will definitely need your passport with you.

Cheers
Marcello

Hello Oguza,
Unless you have a Schengen Visa still valid (which is almost never the case for a work Visa), you cannot travel legally to any other country until the Permesso di Soggiorno has been granted.
It also depends which country you are from however...?

Marcello

The reservation u made for the appointment to the questura for permesso di soggiorno and the receipt from the post office is not sufficient as a travel document.. u still need your permesso di soggiorno card which will be given more or less after a month when u go to the questura for paperworks and for thumbmarking .. i suggest u wait for your permesso di soggiorno.. which i did also since im non eu and i travel from italy to holland often . :)

if you have a permesso di soggiorno in Italy, it doesn't give you any legal right to work in Norway. You have to have a Norwegian work permit to do that, or be an EEA citizen.

for more information on working in Norway, see http://www.udi.no/en/

Hi
How are you...
But my permesso di soggiorno is 5 years..
Yesterday day I meet 1 lawyer, he say its possibl to work in other countries...

If you are sent on assignment by your Italian employer to norway for a brief period and still being paid and residing in Italy, I'm sure it's no problem. However, udi.no makes no mention of a special immigration status for people holding work visas for other EEA member countries. If you want to reside in norway and work for a company based in norway, you need a Norwegian work visa.

Was it a Norwegian or Italian lawyer who told you this?

Hi everybody,

No, a permesso di soggiorno doesn't allow to work in another european country than Italy. Your company in Paris must make you a work permit.

Thanks, but the company make a contract for work , then i can take the work permit..
