Embassy parties

Can anyone tell me about how to get into the british embassy events?

Do they have a website?

Hey Everyone - also just got in country about 6 weeks ago.  I'm living in Mahboulla.  Really missing my US friends.  Would love to try one of these embassy parties and make some friends here.  What's the protocol for going to these?

Hi:

My husband & I have been here since March  & have been trying to figure it out but no one seems to know. If you find out please share ...

You guys just have to friend someone who works at the US embassy to sponsor you. Once you find a sponsor they will need a copy of your civil ID or passport. Each person is only allowed to sponsor four people at all time so spots are limited. Phones are not allowed.

To be honest it's not that great there isn't much mingling going on so making new friends isn't going to be as easy as you hope. The majority of the people there live on base and have their own group of friends so unless you know your sponsor you'll be standing around for a few hours by yourself or with the group your sponsor bought in.

Same thing with British embassy only they have better parties ;)

Thank you. It makes sense.

can anyone help out a few thirsty americans? the three of us are here working on a kuwaiti film project and with 12 hour work days, are dying for a drink. any help we could get would go a long way, thanks!

Hi.  Unfortunately, it is highly illegal to drink in Kuwait.  That's why my husband & I leave every 4-6 weeks on a binger trip as we call it.  We start on the plane, and no we do not fly Kuwait Airways, & we don't stop until we get back.  Funny part is that I don't ever drink that much back home.  It's just so boring here & not to mention the fact that I can't, makes me want it more.  Having said all this, I've heard many people do have access to alcohol & many do drink...

Hello, any parties this weekend?

If there is. Can you let me know as well please...

Ta

Hi Tootsie,

Did u go to any party ?

No worse luck.

Trying to socialise here is very hard..

Did you?

British Embassy has better parties?

Wish I could find out.

I am British. Trying to get in there is imposible.

Wish I knew how to.

Me too nothing :(

Still no luck w/ the US Embassy happy hour events.  I know that even as Americans, we still need a sponsor at the embassy to get in.  Totally weird & it kinda ticks me off because I feel the the US Embassy in Kuwait caters to the Kuwaitis who want to go to the US (specifically students).  Have you tried getting help from the Kuwait embassy in the states?  They only cater to the Kuwaiti citizens as they should b/c that's what embassies are for.  Of all the US embassies you'd think that the one in Kuwait would have events for us Americans since there's no real social life here...  Besides going to the mall or restaurants. Anyway, I've heard that the US Embassy happy hour events are really nice.  I guess I'll never find out. :(

Hi,

Good on you. What part of Kuwait do you live?

I think it is the same as the British Embassy. I know of, Australians, New Zealanders & Spanish getting into it. I think it is totally unfair...

I think we all should be given a chance. Not the chosen few..

Tootsie and Shawn: I think you guys have the wrong idea of what these embassies parties are. At the end of the day the US embassy is still home to a lot of people who work there so the "parties" are for them and their family&friends. You wouldn't invite complete strangers into your home so why would you expect them to do the same? Regardless of what ethinicities are being invited they are there because they personally know an employee. You need a sponsor to go because the person sponsoring you is liable for you so why would someone risk their job to sponsor a complete stranger who could jeopardize their livelihood?

I understand your frustration but the US embassy simply just doesn't have the manpower to entertain every single American who moves to Kuwait. Like I've said before it's all about who you know so try being friendly to a stranger who knows maybe one of them might work for the embassy and you'll get yourself a sponsor :)

Tinataitlyn:  actually the US Embassy, or any other embassy for that matter, is for it's citizens & it is considered to be on US soil.  The parties are NOT for the employees & they are actually for the citiEns mainly & them for the other people from other countries as a mean to integrate & network.

As for being invited as if it's a home? Actually we pay for the embassy by out tax dollars. & technically it is our home away from home.

Embassies put on events for their citizens.  Christmas, thanksgiving, even Halloween.  One of the best haloweens I've ever had was at the embassy in the Bahamas.

Anyway the whole point is that in a dry & boring country, such as Kuwait, you'd think that the embassy, since it's the only place you can legally drink, would put ob an event or two for its citizens.

Well said Shawn..

It is true...

Shawn / Tootsie>
Actually I would argue that you're incorrect on several points.  “Most” specifically, it's ‘not' a frat house to be used on the US taxpayer's dime!  …and no, it's not your home (not even technically), anymore then the US Post Office is your home back in the states.  lol   Yeah, let CNN found out that US tax payer's are fronting tax dollars for party's… how moronic.  The facilities ‘within' the embassies ‘throughout' the world are ‘designed' for the use of “staff”, it's not the US Department of Tourism and Accommodations… it's an “office building” for the US Department of State.  There ‘may' be Embassies and or especially ‘Consulates' in locations where the staff are comfortable enough with regional and local security issues to allow social gatherings on site (more typically off site) under certain conditions as to the sole discretion (or in a lot of places I'm not even sure it would be considered discretionary) of said staff, but it's not a ‘right' simply because you paid your taxes last year.

The mandates of the US Diplomatic Corps abroad is to facilitate three main functions within the Embassies and or Consulates.  (short version)

Political / Official interface to the local government to explain actions taken or about to be taken and the position of the US government /

Commercial / Officially represent US interests in regards to Commercial and Economic subjects / (this is the one I question parts of)

Consular / Administrative and Emergency services to Citizens Abroad / Administrative services for those seeking to enter the US / (not to provide you a bar at taxpayer expense)

Hope everyones week is going well!  :)

Or sounds y'all thirsty looool
I know its hard to find drink or parties expect if u have the link u can get everything actually I do have many links just chill out thirsty ppl ;-))

Hmmm, as I just bought tix to the British embassy ball on Nivemver 11th.  I guess the US embassy in Kuwait has become like our postal services, maybe even the California DMV, where its employees think we are here to serve them.

Like I said, other US embassies throw great parties for the citizens & not their staff. Actually, isn't most  of the employees at the US Emvassy in Kuwait, non US citizens?

Anyway, our British friends are getting us into the British embassy parties so no worries.  Enjoy your employee happy hours.

Join the British ladies society.  Google them. Also ob Facebook.  Attended a couple of coffee mornings, Mondays, with a Brit friend of mine.  They're a rest bunch of ladies.  They talk about all kinds of functions at the Brit embassy. One coming up on the 11th..

Hi, I have been here for about 8 weeks now.  i have searched the British Embassy website and cannot find how to let the them know where i am. Can anyone help me out please?
