RESIDENCE CARD (LABOR CARD)

Salam! Hello to ALL, It's my 2nd month working by this January 9. 2013. I was hired here in Oman as an Engineer But my Resident Card stated profession is not Engineer which make me deprived by the Advantages of travelling freely into GCC countries supposed to be, and also other priveleges of an Engineer (Expat) working in Oman.

When i got my Resident Card (Labor) of course we have PRO because all other processes were done by PRO and it only requires our presence for signatures and picture takings.

Is there anyway to which i can change my resident Card or update into my profession as Engineer? Is it Free? My Name spelling is Also mis-spelled for which the ROP said before it is no problem for mis-spelled name.

Any experienced expat out ther?

JONG

Niceguy!
Folllowing are the pointwise replies to your threat.

1- Travelling to UAE or any other GCC country is "NOT FREE", even if you have an engineering visa, however the advantage is, that you get a direct visa upon arrival at UAE border (by road / by air). You also don't need to have a road permit to dubai if you have an engineering visa.

2- Most of the small scale companies do this practice, i.e. hiring an engineer and granting him a technician visa. If you feel that your company has misguided you on this issue, you may contact your administration/HR and request them to convert your current visa to engineer's visa. However if they deny it, you can not do anything else than just accept it or leave it. The reason behind this is, that obtaining an engineer's visa is not THAT easy and it costs alot of money as well for any company.

3- The spelling mistake in the resident card may cause a problem for you because sometimes there are requirements of matching the name on the resident card with the name, printed on the passport. So all you need to do is to contact your admin/PRO and ask their assistance for this change. You can also contact directly to the immigration people for the clarity on the matter. If they assure you that there ain't any problem or issue, then you need not to bother about it.

Hope the above clarify your concerns.

Hello schaz;

It's nice to hear from your side. You have all the points.
Thank You for your effort replying.

I guess i need to basically start from our HR for some clarifications..

have a Nice time to ALL.

Hi,

Since the designation and the name of the sponsor is mentioned only in Arabic in the Resident Card, you would have to ask one of your Omani colleagues to read it for you and tell you what the English equivalent is. Often times, the designation would not make much sense when translated to English. But it will give you a general idea.

Good luck.

You have it written only in Arabic on the card. The profession mentioned on the labour card in most cases will not match with the job the individual is actually performing. This happens as company's fill in the requirements based on the clearances available with them.

If you are joining at a senior level with a junior clearance, you may miss out on certain privileges. For example only people having a certain level and higher will get a driving license that will allow them to drive to Dubai /red board vehicles..... and so on...

Cheers.

Hi Machan7,

Go with your company PRO to the Directorate General of Civil Status in Seeb - the same place from where you get your Resident Card issued.

Carry copies of your passport and visa stamped pages. Also carry some passport size photographs. The officers there would give you some forms which your company would need to fill-up. Once you fill-in all the forms and handover all other documents mentioned earlier, a new resident card would be issued, after a fine / replacement card fee is paid. The entire process would take a couple of days.

Good luck.

All you need to do is to take a photocopy of you ID card (Im sure u must have it), take a letter from your sponsor, stating the details related to the lost ID card and go to ROP. Rest of the procedure will be informed to you accordingly.

Since you're a housemaid, your sponsor might have to go along with you to obtain the newly issued card. It doesn't seem realistic to get another one within 10 days, however if your sponsor puts an effort, it could be possible too.

Hi judith modesty r.tominez,

Adding to what schaz has stated on this subject here, I would like to add some further details for your information and benefit.

Even I had also misplaced my resident card once quite recently (I left it at a company's reception and left forgetting to collect it back). Noticed my loss only after a couple of days.

So I was asked to go along with my company PRO to the office of the Directorate General of Passport & Residence in Seeb.

You need to carry the employment visa stamped page's copy from your passport to show that you hold a valid employment visa; you need to fill-up a few forms in Arabic (which is why you need your PRO / Sponsor), stating when, where and how you lost your resident card, with some required undertakings.

You will be issued with a new card within a couple of days. Well, in my case, the company where I had forgotten to collect my resident card had handed it over to the ROP, who in turn had returned my resident card to the same office of Directorate General of Passport & Residence in Seeb. So when I went with my PRO, my same resident card was promptly returned to me after a few simple verifications, much to my astonishment and relief !

You have nothing to worry and you should be able to get your new resident card issued well in time before you proceed on your vacation on May 10th.

Good luck !

Hi good day

I just want to enquire about the meaning of this saying work without escort its written in mi ID card

i have a 3% annual allowance every year......can i get this one from my sponcor? beacuse im still new here in oman........please help me to explain regarding on this matter....godbless...

The above two posts are unclear.

Not sure what is even the query.

mr nicegur..

i just want to ask a question to you is, how time you employer had taken to get labor clearance of your visa ?

Hi sir,
How much of cost for recover my lost resident card in rop.....??????
If Without my PRO is this possible?????

Hi Prabha d pier,

There is no cost if your lost Resident Card is recovered. It would be simply handed back to you after verifying your passport details.

If you do not get your lost resident card back, then you have to do some paperwork and get a new one issued at the same cost as getting a new one.

Without a PRO you would not be able to get the duplicate resident card issued.

Thank you very much dear...  !!!

How much does it cost if they will not find the labor card? My friend lost his Labor card and I'm pretty sure he won't get it back.

More than the cost, it's the hassle that a person bears in obtaining one

Generally, it was OMR 20 (till 2016 - Don't know if they've revised it). The PRO / Sponsor does everything. Your friend needs to do is to visit the immigration with his PRO and go through the similar process of obtaining a card, i.e. picture, digital signature etc.
