Kathmandu

Hello everybody!

I wanted to know how is life in kathmandu, if primary goods are available on a daily basis, such as electricity and clean water, and if there is some big problem you encounter that I should know of. Moreover, how hard it is to find a place with wifi? How long did it take for you to get a visa and a permit to stay longer than 5 months?
Thanks to everyone!
Alice

Hi Alice123c

Welcome in Nepal, Here is a little bit problem but you have enough solution for easy life don't worry about Internet & water Only U can't use enough electricity but every where to manage the alternative solution for easy life. If you Stay in Kathmandu Chose the proper place for live out side the ring road. You can found optimum environment for entertainment your stay period in Nepal .

Great questions. I know the feeling. It's like these little developing countries are difficult to see as far as day to day living goes. Not statistics, but real life.

Electricity becomes a brutal commodity by the deepest of winter and spring. At some point when you notice the electricity running you are pleasantly surprised. However, tourists and expats do not rely on the electric grid to get electricity. We have inverters that collect the electricity and then give it back on-demand. But few Nepali have inverters. Most Nepali in the Valley here live in one room with the toilet in the hall. They buy two burner stoves with a tank of LP gas to cook with and wash the dishes in the bathroom.

During monsoon we have almost 24 hours of electric. Water is a bigger issue for tourists and expats. It can be quite expensive to have water trucked in in the spring.

Being in Nepal makes a person appreciate the little things in life and it's surprising how well things work without water and electricity running. Please read my blog at http://frugaltravelsnepal.blogspot.com to get a better idea of how day to day living works here. Please don't let these potential shortages stop you from coming to Nepal. Most people miss the utilities much less than they anticipate.

Im also travelling by 13th of October in Katmandu..
Where is the best location for me to stay where i can enjoy my 1week stay there?

You can choice for center city thamel. Thamel is better stay for transportation. You can visit sowambhu nath tample, pashupatinath tample, narayanhiti musiam, second day you can stay in bhaktapur darbar squar area and visit there many historical place in bhaktapur.
