If you have some questions, do not hesitate to ask

Hi, my name is Merrill.  I moved to Rionegro about 8 years ago and totally fell in love with the country and the people. I met and married a beautiful Colombiana and we live in a small town not far from Rionegro, which is near the Medellin intl airport.

If I tried to list all the great things about this wonderful country, I'd have to write a book... suffice it to say it's a beautiful country and the people are very friendly, courteous and helpful.  When I arrived, I spoke almost no Spanish.  At first it was difficult because, you really need to speak Spanish to be happy here.  Otherwise, you'll end up spending all your time around other expats and learn nothing about the country.  So, I learned pretty quickly.  Of course, it helped that my wife speaks no English.

If anyone has questions about this part of Colombia (orient de Antioquia), feel free to ask.  I'm willing to help wherever possible.

How did you learn spanish and how much tine if took?

Hi Merrill,

To give more importance and light to your questions, i have created a new thread with your post on the Colombia forum. :)

Thank you,

Priscilla

Hi,, I am looking to move my family to Medellin in Dec. Any chance do you have friends that can point me in the right direction for an apartment rentals? Thanks Gary

Hi Merrill,

You sound like a person who could answer many if not all of my questions.
I am an American, at retirement age, and my wife (she is Filipina) are very
Interested in the Medellin area because of the climate, and hopefully a lower
cost of living than here in the states. I think I saw in one of your earlier posts
that you are from Texas. We are from San Antonio.

Here are some of my questions:
- living in a small town like where you are, is it necessary to have a car?
- I have a serious eye condition and need to have annual check ups by a
retina specialist. In your opinion would Medellin offer that quality/level of
Medical care?
- what level of TV & Internet service is available and what would they cost?
- ditto for cell phone service?
- what would you say the cost of living there would run, say compared to the Dallas area?

I might add that my wife & and I live a simple life, with the exceptions being Internet, TV & cell,
and we would be on a budget of about $2000 per month. Does that sound doable?
Of course security is very important to us, and any comments you might have about it would be
much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jim
