The announcement of the verdict will take place on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 2 p.m., MK chief justice Hamdan Zoelva said in the cases hearing on Monday, August 18, 2014.

Big day for Indonesia, Indonesians and foreigners living here.

Best to avoid the area during the announcement.

According to Ali, the KPU has provided the counter-argument related to each allegation. In terms of the alleged misconduct of recapitulation, the KPU has submitted ballots taken from polling stations as evidence.

Just few more days to go and we shall know......

So many uniformed supporters are quite worrying.

Looks more like a personal army than just supporters......

The thought crossed my mind; more so when you consider some of the things he's been saying.

I agree.

For sure they show up again on Thursday, we will see how many of them and what reaction is coming up after 2pm

I'll make a point of not being anywhere near.

At home with TV and popcorn.....then following the news

I've just been past immigration Tangerang, where there's a court.
Outside the court, a smallish demo, looked like about 50 or so people, singing and waving banners, but I couldn't see what they said as I was driving.

IMHO the verdict is a foregone conclusion.  There was never any real evidence to rule otherwise.

Every summery I've read seems to agree with that assessment.
Assuming the expected ruling comes out, I wonder how Prabowo's court "guards" will react.
In my experience, if you wind a large crowd up enough, their combined brain power tends to be somewhere just below moronic, and their actions tend to follow suit.

IF we win, we'll pray....but we don't want to comment on what ifs.

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014 … wsuit.html

The legal team of the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa losing presidential ticket plans to go on the umroh (minor haj pilgrimage) to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, should the Constitutional Court (MK) overturn the results of the 2014 presidential election

When asked what the team would do should the court reject its demand, Habiburokhman said he did not want to comment on what ifs. .

However, in a fit of "Bugger, I let it out, we know we lost"..........

Habiburokhman went to say that if the panel of justices ruled that the election was tainted by fraud and there should be a revote, the Prabowo legal team would work extra hard to win.

This is because we need to catch up by at least 5 million votes [for Prabowo to win the election], he said.

He's just admitted they lost the election, regardless of any fraud.

What a silly billy.

Officials are expecting problems for Thursday.
There will be security at toll booths to stop large mobs getting into Jakarta.

TEMPO.CO, Bandung  Bandung Mayor Ridwan Emil Kamil has called on residents in the West Javas capital to refrain from mobilizing mobs to the Constitutional Court (MK) building in Jakarta when the MK announces its ruling on the presidential election case on Thursday, August 21, 2014...
...Emil explained the Bandung Police had carried out a simulation of a police operation on the Pasteur turnpike for an hour, which aimed at securing the situation in the city post-the MK ruling announcement. Eight toll booths to Jakarta will be guarded in layers to ward off large-scale mobs, he said.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta  Andre Rosiade, the coordinator of the the General Elections Commission Savior Alliance (APP), said supporters from the losing Prabowo-Hatta presidential ticket would continue to stage their protest in front of the Constitutional Court (MK) building on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.

Despite the MKs not holding any trial on the case of the disputed presidential election results until Thursday, August 21, 2014, Andre said some 3,000 supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta camp would still stage a protest....
...The Jakarta Polices patrol and escort (Patwal) department, Adj. Sr. Comr. Slamet Widodo, said the police would not dispatch additional personnel to safeguard the protest in front of the MK building. Earlier, a total of 2,452 joint personnel were mobilized to secure the building.

One of Prabowos team of lawyers, Habiburokhman, said Tuesday that it could not be held responsible for any possible action taken by Prabowos disappointed supporters, who have stepped up their street protests in the past few days.

Let's hope the police is well prepared tomorrow but it should be the case.

Added - I've just read this disgusting story and noticed....

Of late, supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta Rajasa presidential ticket have grown volatile and have begun making threats, including verbally abusing General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Husni Kamil Manik and vowing to torch the offices of news station Metro TV, which is owned by Surya Paloh, whose NasDem Party supported Jokowis presidential nomination.

If we tell them not to take action, then what will happen is a fake reconciliation [with Jokowi]. These people may get frustrated and they could explode at any time, Habiburokhman said. So, we wont push for reconciliation if its not genuine.

His statement echoed that of Prabowos brother, tycoon Hashim Djojohadikusumo, who previously said there would be no reconciliation with Jokowis camp after the court delivered its ruling, which is expected on Thursday.

There will never be reconciliation, Hasyim said.

In other words, the top end of that bunch are saying there'll be trouble.
So much for loving Indonesia.

Good news.
SBY has made it very clear, both sides should respect the court. As I understand it, this means a lot as he is in full control of the TNI.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has appealed to the public to accept the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling on the presidential election result dispute case, which will be announced on Thursday, August 21, 2014. President Yudhoyono has also called on the military and police to be on alert to maintain order when the ruling is made public.

This appears to be confirmed by...

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) headquarters are ready to help secure the announcement of the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling  on the presidential election dispute slated for Thursday. TNI commanders will direclty inspect the preparedness of all tropps across Indonesia.

Today, commanders held a teleconference with all troops (Army, Navy and Air Force) across Indonesia, especially Java Island and Jakarta, said TNI headquarters spokesman Maj. Gen. M. Fuad Basya on Wednesday.

Fuad said the TNIs security assistance would be similar to that of during the campaign, election and election result announcement by the General Elections Commission (KPU). He added  some  30,000 TNI troops had been loaned to the police, but only 23,000 of them that had been mobilized.

So there are still 7,000 reserve personnel, excluding reserves from special forces such as Kopassus, Marines, and Korpaskhas, he said.

And finally....

http://en.tempo.co/read/news/2014/08/20 … Break-Down

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said there were two parties, previously supporting Prabowo-Hatta, that are currently approaching his side. "I speak the way it is. The National Mandate Party (PAN) and Democrat Party [are likely to join the coalition]," Jokowi said. "It is still in progress. We hope it would be realized soon."

All of this seriously damages anyone's chance of doing a naughty.
Good news for Indonesia.

That sounds good indeed....obviously things will go the right way now even though the loosing side is trying to create trouble.

happyhour wrote:

We aren't clear of trouble yet, but it is looking less likely now.
Intel is reported as seeing attempts at mass mobilisations, but no obvious signs of intended mass violence at this point.
Other than a riot or few, I'm thinking there'll be nothing until SBY leaves office,

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014 … s-tni.html

The Indonesian Military (TNI) says it has detected indications of a mass movement being organized after the reading of the Constitutional Courts ruling on a legal challenge to the presidential election results filed by the losing ticket, Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa, on Thursday.

TNI spokesperson Maj. Gen. Fuad Basya said TNI Commander Gen. Moeldoko had told all military personnel to anticipate the mobilization of the masses in the capital after the ruling was announced.

He has reminded us to pay close attention to information revealing the possibility of the mobilization of groups from various areas to Jakarta, he said as quoted by kompas.com at a press conference at military headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta.

Fuad said there were indications that between 2,000 and 3,000 people from areas in provinces near Jakarta, such as Central Java and West Java, would come to the capital city for the reading of the court ruling.

He said the TNI had deployed personnel to a number of areas to prevent mass groups from entering Jakarta. Territorial intelligence officers have made efforts to prevent mass mobilization in Jakarta, said Fuad.

However, he added that no signs of possible violent protests had been indicated despite the heightened tensions. We have secured all points so hopefully, no rioting will happen tomorrow, said Fuad.

The other day someone asked me why I was anti Prabowo.
The answer is simple - I'm pro Indonesia.

This dispute has already done a level of damage to this country and, should it get worse, Indonesia and Indonesians will suffer further.
That includes my wife, daughter and unborn son and, if all goes to plan, myself.
My life is here now and I'm giving serious thought to becoming Indonesian, but I can't do that whilst some fool who blames foreigners and communists for everything, grabs power and throws the country back 25 years.

The race to be the most moronic is heating up.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Around 100 supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential ticket who had come to the Constitutional Court (MK) to hear the ruling on the election result dispute case were barred from approaching MK premises by the police.

The supporters had arrived at the eastern entrance of the National Monumen (Monas) en route to MK when police arrived to stop them from coming closer towards the Court.

"We were directed by officials to proceed towards the western entrance of Monas when we arrived at the eastern [entrance], but it turned out we cannot proceed any further from this entrance too," said a disgruntled supporter Kholil Firdaus earlier today.

Kholil said to have come from Cilacap with 250 fellow supporters and left Cilacap early in the morning before arriving at the vicinity of Monas at 8 a.m.

Arif Mahari, a mobile brigade official who stood guard at the Monas western entrance, confirmed that Prabowo's supporters have been barred from entering MK premises. "The Court has been sterilized to ensure that the proceedings go without a hitch," he said.

Regardless of this clear police action....

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo-Hatta's supporters have threatened to breach in the premises of the Constitutional Court (MK) if the court does not rule in favor of the number 1 presidential ticket.

"If the court rules against us, then supporters will force their way into the court building," said a supporter from Majalengka, Syamas Fadjarudin, at Rumah Polonia in Cawang, East Jakarta earlier today.

Supporters of Prabowo-Hatta have said that MK risked being seen as an incompetent entity if the court decided to rule against Prabowo's claims. "The ruling that comes from a court whose legitimacy is in limbo, is a faulty ruling that should be overturned," said Syamas.

They're out for trouble and if they try to find it, I suspect they'll regret it.
I think we'll see a lot more trouble in the coming weeks, especially when SBY leaves office.
These idiots have no idea what they're actions will do to Indonesia.

Ah, win or lose, Probowo's lot will claim Jokowi wasn't a legal candidate.

Prabowos camp previously said the courts ruling would not end Prabowos efforts to vindicate himself in court, as his legal team would take further legal action, including filing a lawsuit with the PTUN and filing complaints with the Jakarta Police.

The lawsuit, which according to Prabowos camp will be heard at the PTUN beginning this week, is reportedly aimed at proving Jokowis illegal candidacy due to a lack of documents, and not to challenge today's court ruling. (ebf)

They've kicked off.

Jakarta. Police fired water cannons and tear gas on a mob of supporters of losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto attempting to storm the Constitutional Court on Thursday as the judges began reading out their verdict in the candidates challenge to the results of the July 9 election.

The crowd threw rocks and tried to break through the barricades set up by police at the southern end of Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat in Central Jakarta. As of press time, police had managed to disperse part of the crowd.

said Ahmad Fadlil. "Based on the evidence and facts of the trial, there was no evidence to conclude that the defendant and the associated mass mobilizations that may harm the applicant," he added. With these considerations, the Court assesses the lawsuit irrelevant Prabowo team. "There is no fraud DPKTb which can be detrimental to one candidate. related DPTB So the argument of, deposits and DPKTb irrelevant, "he said.

The water cannon was an excellent idea.  It was high time some of those guys took a mandi anyway!

There were bribes paid, so Prabowo's complaint was valid.
Pity his lot were the ones that paid them.

The DKPP also announced that nine local commissioners would be dismissed from the organization for bribery. Four were dismissed for taking bribes from Gerindra in Serang, Banten province. Five others were dismissed for logistical failures that led to a heavily compromised election in Dogiyai district in Papua.

Nine members have been dismissed, 30 have been warned, and 20 were found not guilty, DKPP chief Jimly Asshiddiqie said on Thursday, as quoted by Detik.com.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Diehard supporters of Prabowo Subianto had breached the steel wall in front of the Indosat Building. In order to disperse the crowd, the police deployed two K-9 units.

Another pack of supporters, seen in Jalan Merdeka Barat, pushed the barbed wire and shouted "forward!" They were seen orating on top of four unimog vehicles and a giant truck.

In response to the imminent clash, riot police equipped with armored vehicles prepared to launch tear gas towards the angry mob. Meanwhile, other officers established a human-barricade, attempting to disperse the crowd using their less-lethal baton.

Similar situation took place in front of the Bank Indonesia roundabout, where the police deployed tear gas and used water canon to stop the mob's advance.

These are the people that want to grab power in Indonesia. I think we're better off without them.
Setting the dogs on them is a fine idea, as long as the dogs don't get hurt.

Just to confirm, the court has ruled against Probowo and Prabowo has signed a letter accepting the ruling.

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2014 … uling.html

Prabowo campaign team spokesperson Tantowi Yahya said Thursday that the losing presidential pair Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa accepted the Constitutional Courts verdict rejecting their lawsuit on alleged electoral fraud but insisted that the verdict did not reflect substantive justice in Indonesia.

Even though the [Red-and-White] Coalition accepts the verdict, we insist that the decision does not reflect substantive justice nor truth in Indonesia, Tantowi said in a press conference held by the Prabowo-Hatta campaign team right after the verdict was read.

As expected, he hardly finished with grace, and has left the possibility of further stupidity open.
What Indonesia needs now, is for him and his pals to go skulk in some corner and lick their wounds, but shut their fat mouths and let the rest of us get on with life.

Indonesia won.

Extremist and greed politics do.
Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like if we rounded up all the extremists and sent them for a long holiday to the moon.
I suspect the rest of us would get along, regardless of race, religion, skin colour or any of the other things the extremists tell us we should hate.

Yes indeed, Indonesia won.

The court did their job, and they did it well, and the police and TNI did also did an excellent job with crowd control using only appropriate force or restraint.

Well done Indonesia.

Finally, the last chapter of The Year of Living Dangerously is over, once and for all.

Speaking of extremists, I was very happy to read this condemnation of ISIS by SBY:

It seems to me that some parts of "the Muslim world" could learn a great deal from the most populated Muslim country on earth.

Morning Roy, perhaps we could start an Indonesian insomniacs' club.
I was also very pleased to see those comments.
The outgoing president seems to be finishing with style.
The rejection of extremism, along with the new president's attitude to things, suggests a strong chance of Indonesia moving forward to a brighter future.

Congratz for the new president

I wonder if this is actually over, or some if other naughtiness will come to pass.

Jakarta. The Merah Putih coalition, which supported losing presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, expressed disappointment at the Constitutional Courts ruling that rejected Prabowos challenge to the election results.

The Constitutional Court ruling, regardless if final and binding, is not necessarily a reflection of the truth and substantial justice for the entire people of Indonesia, coalition spokesman Tantowi Yahya said at a televised press conference from the Grand Hyatt Jakarta Hotel, shortly after  the courts decision was announced on Thursday evening.

Prabowo wasn't there because he was visiting "victims of the police"; that's the rioters that were hurt when the attacked the court.

I wonder if the protesters will pay for the parks they damaged.
http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/jak … ity-parks/

Jakarta. A furious Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said on Friday that he would send a bill to the coordinator of Thursdays protests in support of Prabowo Subiantos Constitutional Court appeal  after those involved ran riot over parks around Jalan Medan Merdeka.

I asked the head of Jakarta Parks and Cemetery Agency yesterday to send a letter to the coordinator, Basuki said on Friday. We will fix the parks first, then well send them a letter to charge them the repair fee.

Hundreds of paramilitary and bussed-in protesters gathered in front of the Constitutional Court on Thursday as the judges prepared to give their verdict on Prabowos appeal against the presidential election result. Trucks attempted to push through police lines and police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the mob.

Basuki, who is a member of Prabowos Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) political party, was unamused by the anti-social behavior.

Its the second time, the exasperated deputy governor said. Previously, they did it at the KPU [General Election Commission] office, now in Jalan Medan Merdeka. Thats why we ordered the head of the Parks and Cemetery Agency to send a comprehensive letter including pictures. Those supporters must have a coordinator.

We aren't quite clear of the woods.

http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/ext … l-settled/

Jakarta. If Joko Widodos supporters thought that Thursdays Constitutional Court ruling had removed the final obstacle standing between their man and the State Palace  they had underestimated the ability of Indonesian law to throw in one last Kafkaesque twist.

Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi urged Joko on Friday to hand in his resignation as Jakarta Governor to the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) at the earliest possible opportunity.

He should step down, because he should not hold two state official posts. A governor is a state official, so is a president, Gamawan said, as quoted by the state-run Antara news agency. His resignation has to be approved by the Jakarta Legislative Council.

But the DPRD does not have to accept Jokos resignation, which could mean Joko is unable to take his seat in the State Palace in October.

There is a precedent.

When Fauzi Bowo served as Jakarta governor, his deputy, Prijanto, handed in a letter of resignation in March, 2012, but it was not ratified by the DPRD. Prijanto was forced to continue as deputy governor until Joko won the next election.

Gamawan said Joko required a minimum of 54 councilors voting in favor of his resignation.

Ive counted it, Jokos coalition at the Jakarta DPRD consists of only 50 seats, Gamawan said. He needs at least 54 councilors to approve his resignation. I hope there will be no rejection.

Ooppsss.....that means things are not 100% clear yet??

Wuuaaduuuhhh.....

Have no concerns, this is merely a formality and Jokowi's resignation will be gratefully accepted.

We are dealing here with the resignation of office, Governor of Jakarta in order to take the role of President of Indonesia.  Common sense dictates that the DPRD of Jakarta would NEVER in a million years block the will of the Indonesian people in their vote for him as President.

The press here takes too many clues and bad habits from our neighbor down under!   :D

The challenges are less than over.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa lawyer Habiburrahman, said that the trial concerning the presidential election dispute at the Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) will begin on Wednesday, August 27 2014. "The appeal [submitted] to the PTUN is related to legitimacy, whether Joko Widodo's candidacy was legally flawed or not," said Habiburrahman.

Elza Syarief, a member of from Prabowo's legal team also said that the appeal to the PTUN had been filed before the judicial review request was submitted to the Constitutional Court.

In the appeal to PTUN, Prabowo challenged the recapitulation result of the General Election Commission (KPU). Habiburrahman said that the permanent voters list (DPT) was not in accordance with KPU regulation No. 477 on DPT. "The document is legally incorrect. Therefore, the recapitulation should be annulled," said Habiburrahman.

Will this dude ever realise, his silliness is damaging Indonesia.
Or perhaps he does know, but there's way too much cash at stake for him to care what happens to the country he claims to love.
Who knows?
