Anxiety of most people relocating to any African country - My thought

Dear mates seeking expat jobs in Africa,

First of all, let me tell you that the way Africa is portrayed amongst people, societies especially in India is so so wrong. Job seekers are often told that it's a jungle out there, wild life around your house, scarcity of transport systems, no power in the house and the like!! I say that.....Africa as of today is the most potential global market and most sought after destination by MNC's to set up their operations! and why is that? Well, because of its growth.

First things first:

[a]Groceries , Veggies, Meat, etc.....Africa has all the usual and normal commodities that one looks for leading a normal life be it groceries, vegetables, fruits, toiletries etc. Fact is one sees even more varieties of fruits and vegetables than one sees in India! people are for not reasons worried....will I get rice there, will i get flour...please stay away from guys who tell you otherwise. Each and every grocery item/veggies are available!!
Advice: Yes, I can certainly advise you to carry some important things like a pressure cooker with extra rings and valves since these are pretty expensive there compared to India. Crockery....One gets the best there then why not spend in that country to help that country? Clothes are usually quite expensive so carry your stuff.

Medicals: Carry some generic medicines if traveling with kids. Especially make sure you have the basic ayurvedic/allopathy medicines for children since they are used to these. The problem there is that if a kid has throat swelling or the like, a shot of antibiotic is given to ease it quickly but remember antibiotic shots have their own side effects on kids so carry adulsa suspension or something like coughnil etc...
Advice: Best solution to keep healthy in :/  Africa?? EAT ALL THATS COOKED THERE LOCALLY !! Your tummy gets used to it automatically and by the way they have some of the best ways to cook stews, fish and meat that you would not even dream of. :D

[c]EDUCATION is good in Africa [Better in certain cases than India depending which country one relocates to]. Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Botswana all these places have schools that are very good [CBSE, IGCSE, ICSE, DPS....]so nothing to worry about kids adjustment issues or the curriculum! People forget thats kids are better equipped to adapt than adults so leave it to the child and he/she adjusts just fine !
Advice: Fees of course is bound to be much higher unless employer pays for the fees. Expect 7-10 times the fees you have been paying in India in INR....[Approx USD 800-1000 per term for one child] don't forget schools in Africa are equally well equipped with all facilities so its bound to be expensive as also the fact that schools have to pay salaries to staff there as well. If you are paying then prefer other schools that have lower fees but then quality of education is in question. Why do we earn overseas? is it not because of family? so why think twice for kids fees? Put them in the best schools and you will see how they blossom.

[d] Nature of people......There are always lot of people to help you and usually people are very co-operative to make your life easy in any part of Africa but some would advise you to stay away from local community.....BEWARE of such people since my experience with all Africans is excellent as they are lovable people, welcome all from any part of the world, help when time comes SO BE A PART OF THE LOCAL CULTURE AND YOU SEE HOW LOVELY LIFE BECOMES IN AFRICA !! sOCIALISE WITH THEM, PARTY WITH THEM AND LIFE IS HEAVEN IN AFRICA.

[e] Climatic conditions; East Africa has a more temperate climate meaning more cool weather year round [so keep with you warm clothing since Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda etc are very cold in winters]...except Tanzania, Sudan that are humid and hot. West Africa usually is very humid and hot due to proximity to the Atlantic but homes, offices are air conditioned so not to worry. and i any case one has to adapt! why crib of the weather? can you and i change it? there is a duration of time called Harmattan in west africa whereby the winds carry sand dust from the dessert so take care that time since the atmosphere is dusty.

[f] Worries about Lifestyles that one would live: Well all depends on the individual and his spending patterns. Cook at home and you would be fine. Eating out is expensive all over Africa keep that in mind. Learn their cuisines and cook them at home....you wont have to eat out except in places like McDonnalds. Food in a good restaurant ranges between USD 30-50 per person [wine excluded]. Beer is cheap so enjoy local beers!

[g] Medicals are expensive as well so take care unless employer pays for medicals. Normal medicines for cough/cold/flew would cost around USD 25 per person on avg. Keep healthy and fit and you wont need the medicines. Exercise a lot...walk around...there is nothing to fear. There are no animals to come and eat you there!

Hope above will be of some help to all those aspiring to come to Africa. Any more information you need and I'd be glad to assist since I have excellent exposure to Africa and my love for Africa.

Your thoughts are SPOT ON.
Excellent I'll say... well done.

Hello,

Thanks for your comment. I still want to add more to it but had little time but will do so soon. We need to change people's perceptions about the beautiful continent of Africa. I feel i was an african in my last birth and hence the love for Africa and my interactions with Africans has been fantastic while I was there and still plan to come back there.
