Good doctors/hospitals in Phnom Penh that do not cost a lot of money.

They reckon to be a Charitable Non Profit Hospital

Have you tried SOS? They are a little expensive by Cambodian standards, but very cheap for those of us used to paying Western prices. I had two doctor visits, a ton of blood work, urine analysis, and ultra sound, and it was about $300. In the US it would have been more like $30,000, so I felt like I got an excellent deal. They have different prices for different doctors, and the one I saw was one of the most expensive (just because she happened to be available when I went in). I also had a guest who had to spend 2 days at SOS for a fairly severe illness and dehydration, and her bill was about $1,000 which would have been 100 times that in the US. I suggest seeing someone during regular hours to see if it's something they can diagnose without seeing the actual "attack."

Definitely keep well away from SOS, it's the biggest rip off in town and the send you home with a bag full of medications that often have nothing to do with the ailment. Best reasonable clinics in PP are Royal Rattanak (owned by Bangkok Hospital), Naga clinic and Embassy Medical Centre. Many of the others don't see a patient walk in the door but rather an ATM.

This is a very good Doctor in Phnom Penh his wife is also a doctor at his clinic.Turn right into St136 off Sisowath BLVD) (on the Riverside) and take the first left into no 5 St and its about 50 metres on the left hand side.
He speaks English and you can tell him Peter sent you to see him.He is only $10 a visit. for a barang and $5.for Khmer.He is an excellent doctor and can refer you to his hospital that he is Vice chairman and its much cheaper for x rays or scans there.I recommend him with confidence.I am an Australian living here in Cambodia.SOS is an expensive option,Calamette is very bad comparing to Western standards.and not cheap either for Barangs.The Hope Clinic in Phnom Penh is also staffed by Western Doctors,but the cost is on par with Calamette but the service is much better.hope this helps you Ken and anyonelse looking for medical treatment.

I used to refer my family to visit Apsra Clinic - Dr. Ep Tec is I think best in town having specialization in respiratory and tropical diseases. Dr. fee is 20 USD.
Apsra Clinic is at Streat 105 House # 45, in front of Swensens/ Pizza Company at the back of (back street) Phnon Penh Tower.

We go to Dra. MARISSA.  She is a filipina Dr that has lived here for 18 years.  She gives you 110% of her attention. General practice and pediatrics.  Call to make  appt.  012 803 610 or 023 217 649   Street 63 #262B .she charged us $30 for first visit  including a urine test . second visit $15. Spent 50 minutes with us on our first visit.

Just some idea. If your wife is Cambodian and your daughter is often sick. Please think about the Lactose intolerance. 85% of asian people are lactose intolerant. Myself and my son suffer of this. I discover since he was 2 months and half. He was sick really offten (throat irritation, fever, diarrhea, vomit, stomachache...). And the baby doesn't sleep much and cry a lot for nothing and not in good mood.

Anywhere you go please don't forget to discuss about this with your doctor. And if possible make the blood test for sure.

Dr. Yit Sunnara (Kunthak Bopha director) has his own clinic and not expensive (5$ for khmer and 10$ for expat). I'm sorry that I don't remember the address but his clinic is on the street connect Toul Tom Poung pagoda to Olympic. Come from Olympic on that street, you can see the pagoda and the clinic is on the right. OR the best ways is to take Mao Sé Tong and turn in front of the Pagoda direction to Olympic, the clinic is on your left. My number 077 220 147, if you need any clarification. 

He was the only one Dr. for us who talk about that. And he takes that problem as serious for asian peoples. Lactose intolerance will not kill us but it destroy life (depression and stress).

My son and I we have a better life since we knew this.

Are you serious? Excuse me for being cynical - but you are suggesting that 2 nights in a US hospital would cost $100,000 or your 2 visits with extras would be $30,000 !!!!???? I consider that $1000 is a high price for a developing country - Thailand is more expensive to live in, but hospital bills are considerably less than the amounts you paid.

In Cebu city,  Phippines an ultrasound is $15 , a Dr visit $10 to $25 and urine tests are $10 to $20 depending if its a 3 day culture or not.  So $300. Is very expensive IMO.

There is an American doctor in Phnom Penh that is very good and doesn't play games mixing unknown medicines like the Cambodian clinics do (I have experienced this too).     You can contact him at drsheftall.com/ or reidsheftall.com/.    Note that he doesn't  practice only just cosmetic surgery and am sure he can help you with your problem.

I totally agree with mbscorpio18 above.  I am American and NEVER have heard such nonsense.
I have been living here 11 years and have never had any problems with doctors.  But all of you should be aware that living in Cambodia if you are foolish to pay inflated bills they will gladly accept. 

Firstly I have learned Khmer and maybe because of it I have never paid the Berang price, secondly I always ask during the interview what will be the cost and if its inflated I immediately politely smile and say "ot tay" (no) and ask for the usual Khmer fee.  Normally I never get inflated prices but if I do I immediately get it reduced by at least half.  This sound like an exaggeration but I normally pay $5 per visit.  You should think of going to the doc as just the same as haggling at the market.
Regarding the original comment that the docs give meds without telling what they are.  Yes that is true I think because most Khmers trust and never question.  IF YOU ASK THEY WILL DEFINITELY TELL YOU.  99% of the time they will always include worthless vitamin pills because its a nice little additional income charge, never be shy and say no thanks.
If we all object to the Berang price then hopefully it will stop. Imagine trying to charge minorities 100% more back home.

I recommend Dr Heng Pouv's practice in street 90 behind Sunway Hotel, prices are fair 22 us per consultation, he works on saturdays and sundays. He will do the bloodtestts as well as he has his own laboratory. He speaks English and french.

As a reminder, as I already said in another thread, use your common sense before placing your life in the hands of someone who has been recommended by two or three lurkers in a country in which the governemnt has lost all control of medical licensing.

Although the directory has improved a lot since then, there are still several entries in there that seem to be quite dodgy.

I suggest you take your girl to Bangkok and have a full paediatric specialist assessment, eg try Bumrungrad Hospital. Worth the expense, very professional , modern and farang friendly. I think there is an office in PP off St 51 around 200??

yes he is a good doctor.

We went to Bumrungrad for Paediatric checkup some years ago as well. Fully recommended. And a good excuse to leave dirty dusty Phnom Penh for a few days.

The Chulalonkorn Hospital in Bangkok has many of the same doctors that work at Bumengrad at a fraction of the cost if you do not mind standing in line to register and for the initial blood exam.
I had surgery there and was in a ward there for three weeks and paid about $1,000. USD for everything that incuded radiation treatment before surgery.

I had same for little kids 1 year and 2 month old , fever , sore throat and cough,
I known well lady working from Kunteakbopha Hospital , she's medical is very good , I paid 4.50 for a botle syrup,   make the kids better and she can eat as normal.
Just my experience to used local medical with the I trust.
