Cost of living in Montenegro

Hi everybody,

It would be very interesting and useful to exchange informations about the cost of living in Montenegro
. The idea is to help those who would like to live in Montenegro
.
Don't forget to mention where you are living

Let's compare the:

> accommodation prices (how much does it cost to rent or to buy an accommodation in Montenegro
?)

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)

> energy prices (oil, electricity)

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant

> prices of a beer or a coffee in a regular pub

Thanks in advance for your participation!

I live in Tivat, Montenegro, home of the future "Porto Montenegro" the luxury Mega Yacht Marina...

> accommodation prices (how much does it cost to rent or to buy an accommodation in Montenegro?)

Renting accomodation:
- low-medium quality : 5€-8€/SQM/month
- medium-high quality : 8€-10€/SQM/month
- high-lux quality : 10€-15€/SQM/month (but very rare offer) Buying accomodation can be quite expensive. On the coast, a medium price for buying would be 2500EUR/SQM

> public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)
I'm not using public transports, but there are plenty of small buses alll the time here, and I guess it must be very cheap.

> food prices(per month, how much does it cost you?)
I'm currently paying around 80-100EUR/person/month

> health prices (for those who need medical insurance)
Haven't tried yet!

> eduction prices (if you need to pay)
No idea.

> energy prices (oil, electricity)
Diesel is about 0,80 EUR/litre

> common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)

It seems that electricity bills cost 0,15 to 0,20c per SQM per day in january/february. Between october-december and march-april, it drops to 0,05-0,10c/sqm ; this is in an apartment with OK insulation... You can get ADSL for around 30 EUR/month.

> prices of a good menu in a traditional restaurant
10 to 25 EUR. There are also some cheap and very nice restaurants where you can have a great lunch for as little as 6 EUR. Find out with the expats already living here.

> prices of a beer or a coffee in a regular pub
coffee would be 0,7 or 0,8 EUR, cappuccino around 1,30, hot chocolate (very thick chocolate) about 1,50EUR.

Anyone moving (or willing to move) to Montenegro, feel free to send me a PM.
Cheers!

Here's a little add on to "Montenegro's" posts for the prices, but I am living in Niksic.

public transportation fares (tube, bus etc ...)
-bus from Niksic to Podgorica is between 2-3 euros.

health prices (for those who need medical insurance)
-Montenegro has a socialist heath system so it doesn't cost anything to go to a public health place.  You just need to get the green book that is your medical card.  I had my baby here free of cost this December at the hospital. I did use a private ob/gyn and each visit cost 20 euros.

eduction prices (if you need to pay)
-My husband (who is local) attended college free of charge on the condition of grades. Failure to complete his final year costed him a little over 600 euros.

energy prices (oil, electricity)
-We pay 35-40 euros/month, but we use a wood stove which proved to be far better than electricity here.
In-laws use electricity (and it's still freezing in their apt.) and their bill is well over 100 euros/month.

Wood cost a total of 450 euros which included delivery and cutting. We bought extra and have enough for next winter.

common bills (Internet, television, telephone, mobile phone)
-DSL including land line is 26 euros.
-cable is 7 euros monthly
-two mobiles with family deal. One is prepaid (with 5 euro cards) and other monthly. Monthly averages 20 euros. With the family plan can call each other free of charge.
-Garbage 4 euros
-5 euros/month building maintance

It would be interesting to see if we get anymore posts from more people here.
